10 of Liverpool’s Best Female Music Makers
As you know we simply adore the Liverpool music scene and it’s safe to say that at the moment it’s not only the lads that are smashing it, but the ladies are doing pretty well too. Covering all genres of music from soul to folk, EDM to blues the girls in the city’s music scene have got it all going on. We have chosen 10 scouse starlets you should be looking out for at the moment…
At just 19 years old this Southport singer, songwriter and producer has already made a name for herself as one of the stand out stars to come out of the Mersey music scene in recent times. In 2014 she was name the GIT Award ‘One to Watch’. Since then she has played Glastonbury, been championed by Zane Lowe, and this year been named as one of the BBC Sound of 2015 acts. Lapsley (real name Holly Fletcher) is set to release her debut album early in 2016, and is about to embark on a UK & USA tour, you can catch her at The Deaf Institute, Manchester on November 2nd.
In the mean time though check out her brand new single ‘Hurt Me’ (it is stunning!) and listen in to Juice tomorrow night (Sunday 11th Oct) as we will be joined by the lady herself.
This girl has impressed Chris Martin in a national songwriting competition, had a private mentoring session with Sir Paul McCartney, won ‘Best Female’ at the 2013 Liverpool Music Awards, graduated from LIPA, and played pretty much every gig and festival the city has offered up over the past few years. Natalie has become a huge name in the local music scene, respected not only for her incredible talent but also her workmanship and loveable personality. Her live performance is perfected and polished and her music is perfect guitar led pop, and we expect even bigger things to come for Miss McCool in 2016. Her new single ‘Cardiac Arrest’ is out from November 13th and you can catch her live at Studio 2, Parr Street on November 19th. We have had Nat on The Guide Liverpool many times and this was one of our favourite’s…
Surely one of the city’s most beautiful singers currently making waves in Liverpool’s music scene, Katy is currently studying at LIPA and last year was one of the stand out acts to come out of the LIMF Academy, securing herself a huge slot on the Its Liverpool stage for 2015 (and it’s safe to say she smashed it!). Singer, songwriter, keyboard & guitar player and still crafting her talent, it’s hard to describe what genre of music Katy produces as every song is so different, yet so incredible. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this lady, and we loved having her perform for us in the sunshine this Summer.
Get Into This said ‘One of the North-West’s most hotly-tipped up-and-comers, they’re most certainly not to be missed before the big-time comes calling’. They have already supported Bog Geldoff & The Boomtown Rats, Pulled Apart by Horses & Neon Waltz and are fronted by 24 year old Jessie Robinson. A huge future ahead we think, and new music is on the way. We recorded them performing at this year’s Threshold Festival and can’t wait to see them live again.
She Drew the Gun
Yes we have mentioned She Drew The Gun before, a lot. That is because this lady and her band are just so damn good. Signed to Skeleton Key Records, Louisa and co describe their sound as experimental pop. The guys are about to embark on a huge European tour with singer, songwriter & producer, Fink, you can catch them at The Academy 2 in Manchester on Saturday October 17th. Their music is dreamy, cool and classy and their live performance is perfected as you will see below. She Drew the Gun put on quite a show for us at The Sir Thomas Hotel earlier this year, very special performance indeed.
Another super talented, and super beautiful local singer, songwriter, Clare Sophia mixes pop with soul, and also electronic music to create a unique singing style. Claire recently made it as one of the finalists of the Best of Liverpool competition and also Out on Stage 2015 and is currently working on new material and we are 100% sure 2016 holds big things for this girl. Clare joined us at Heebie Jeebies this Summer and I think you will agree with us when we say, what a performance.
Not only has Katie made a name for herself here in her home town, but now it’s London’s music scene in which she is flourishing. At the age of 17 Katie was awarded with a Liverpool Music Award 2013, captured 100,000 plus viral hits on her first homemade track ‘Chemistry’, and landed a number one in the UK & Irish country Hot Disc Chart. You could say Katie is our little scouse Taylor Swift, mixing country and pop perfectly. It’s not only about the music though as she also runs her own online community helping independent artists, Busy Bee. Katie joined us at The Albert Dock earlier this year.
Another favourite of ours, it’s the girl with the BIG hair, the BIG voice & the BIG talent. Eleanor Nelly is just 15 years old and already making a huge name for herself as a real one to watch in the Liverpool music scene. Eleanor is about to release her debut EP ‘Insane & Love’ with a launch party to coincide with the release at Studio 2, Parr Street on 14th November.
Eleanor performed at the Anthony Walker Festival in August and this is her beautiful track ‘Blue Eyes’
Ok we might have cheated a bit here as it isn’t only a local lass Michelle Harris and her beautiful, soul filled voice that makes up this RnB duo, there is also the insanely talented Alex Dopierala too. But we couldn’t not mention them, they really are everywhere’ at the moment, just graduated from LIPA and smashing the gig scene left right and centre. We got them into the studio to perform their latest tune ‘Sunsets/ Charades’.
We had to give one of our favourite’s another mention, we love Mersey Wylie, not only the coolest name in the world but also one of the nicest people in the local music scene. Soul, jazz, blues and pop combine to give energetic and fun performances and quite possible the busiest stage ever on The Guide. She performed ‘Love that’s Real’ with a FULL jazz band at Heebie Jeebies. Mersey is currently working on new music and we can’t wait to hear and see what is next for the girl with quite possible the best name in the entire city.
