We can’t get enough of Christmas songs here at The Guide Liverpool and although we can’t agree on which is the best, we still know all the lyrics to the biggest hitters from down the decades. Whether you’re a Mariah warbler, a Buble crooner or a plain of Pogues slurrer, there’s a track for you to sing along to on our Ultimate Christmas Day playlist. Which is your fave?

1 – Mariah Carey – All I Want for Christmas

Even when what we really want for Christmas is a new car, diamond ring, PS4 or roller skates, we can’t help but get in the mood for a day of family, fun and food the moment Mariah pipes up……’I…..I….iiiiii…..don’t want a lot for Christmassssss…..’ bet she does!

2 – Christina Aguilera – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

If there’s two things we love at Christmas time its a traditional carol and the opportunity to try and match Christina Aguilera note for note and nail your turn at living room Christmas karaoke. Have that Aunty Anne!

3 – Michael Buble – Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

Here he comes, Mr Christmas himself. The big band is in full swing and we’re feeling the love as Michael Buble puts a cheesy smile on our face and a spring in our step as we nip out to stick all the wrapping paper in the blue wheelie bins.

4 – Wham – Last Christmas

Oh George! A year on since the phenomenal talent that is Mr. George Michael sadly passed, his legacy lives on in this absolutely belting Christmas track that’s gotta be on before 9am on Christmas Day to pay homage to the great man himself.

5 – The Pogues & Kirsty McColl – Fairytales of New York

Morning, noon and night…regardless of how many of the words you know, this is the one that gets everyone up, singing loud and badly, every single Christmas. ‘And the NYPD….something…thing…we’re playing Galway Bay….belles ringing out for Christmas Daaaaaaaaayy’, we’ve all done it.

6 – John Lennon – Happy Xmas (War is Over)

Another classic that will get all generations singing along, wonder if Lennon could’ve predicted the popularity of this cherish Christmas song, played the world over? One for the dishes after Christmas dinner we reckon.

In fact, you can play any of the classic Spice Girls Christmas number ones, such as, Too Much or Goodbye throughout Christmas day for a great little singalong. Peeling spuds? Taking your rollers out? Laying the table? Turn it up.

This is one for when you’ve smashed the prosecco and post-Christmas dinner and think you can hit the high notes along with Alexandra. We still think she was robbed of a Strictly Come Dancing victory.

Elton is defo a huge fan of Christmas and we love this video as much as the song, which again, we seem to know all the words too despite never actually seeking them out. Weird, but hey, step into Christmas people!

12 – Nat King Cole – The Christmas Song

Get ready for the goose bumps! How utterly stunning is this beautiful song, written and recorded in 1944, sung by the unforgettable Nat King Cole? A timeless classic that you can have a little croon along to when the presents are being opened. Ahhhhh Merry Christmas to youuuuuu.
