9 Reasons you won’t want to miss the Southport Flower Show this weekend
It’s back for another four day celebration of all things bloom-tiful, with some famous faces and tasty treats on offer too.
Back for it’s 89th annual celebration, the UK’s largest independent flower show returns to the region this weekend. The Southport Flower show, partnered by Everest brings stunning floral displays, live entertainment, celebrity guests, gardening gurus and plenty of family fun to town from Thursday 1th – Sunday 19th August from 10am, daily.
We’ve rounded up 9 of the best things to see and do at this year’s Southport Flower Show…..
1 – Famous Faces
If you fancy a bit of celeb spotting this week, Southport Flower Show is the place to be. Presenter of Gardener’s World, Monty Don visits the region for the first time in 20 years and Cbeebies star, Justin Fletcher will also be at the event to entertain the little ones. Keep your eyes peeled for celeb chefs and gardeners making appearances across the weekend.
2 – Meet the Gardening Gurus
If like us, your garden has been a bit sunburnt this summer, head to the Celebrity Theatre to meet and get top advice from TV Gardeners, David Domoney from ITV, Carol Klein from BBC, Christine Walkden and Matthew Wilson too.
3 – Ladies Day at Southport Flower Show
The air of sophistication! The Southport Flower Show Ladies Day event will be on Friday 17th August and begins with a sparkling reception, followed by a leisurely lunch and entertainment. Hosted by the Paul Crone and our very own Claire Simmo, Ladies Day is a highlight of the Southport summer calendar and always a sell-out.
4 – Get Hands on at the Demonstration Kitchen
There’s only one thing better than growing delicious food in your garden and that’s cooking and eating it! The Demonstration Kitchen is a must for anyone seeking fresh ideas and inspiration at meal times. Simon Rimmer is joined by Great British Bake Off winners and fellow chefs to fire up the ovens and create delicious dishes from fresh garden produce.
5 – Family Fun
There’s brand new family fun at Southport Flower Show this weekend as Bright Bricks, the official LEFO building experience opens its doors. Running on Friday and Saturday near the bandstand, it’s £4 entry and kids can build til their hearts’ content.
6 – Live Entertainment
You can expect entertainment from London Vegetable Orchestra and live performances from the CD Music Academy plus dog shows and birds of prey over at the showground arena.
7 – Face to Face with Britain’s Rare Breeds
Some of Britain’s rarest breeds of livestock will be on show at Southport Flower Show with magnificent Gloucester and Hereford cattle and sheep breeds including White Faced Woodlands, Manx and Hill Radnors, all cared for by passionate enthusiasts who are determined to ensure the survival of the breeds for future generations.
8 – Pop Up Shopping
The Southport Flower Show 2018 features a ‘pop up’ shopping village with over 300 stalls offering everything from art and crafts to items for the home and garden. Stallholders include luxury suppliers of fashion, jewellery, homeware and furniture.
9 – Beautiful Blooms
As well as the spectacular Show Gardens, the centrepiece of Southport is the Grand Floral Marquee with breathtaking displays showing the work of some of the North West’s brightest gardening talents, all vying to win one of our coveted Best in Show awards.
