Africa Oyé to showcase local talent at Sefton Park

Africa Oyé has announced the North West talent that will be showcased in the ‘Oyé Introduces’ portion of this year’s Liverpool festival.

Introduced for the first time at last year’s event, ‘Oyé Introduces’ will see local talent kick off both days of the festival, giving some of the area’s brightest artists the chance to share the stage with the ever-eclectic international Oyé line-up.

Mamadou & The Super Libidor Band are fronted by Mamadou Diaw; a singer, composer and master drummer from Senegal, specialising in a style of music that mixes jazz, funk, and Senegalese mbalax. Before first coming to Europe in the 90s, Mamadou toured Africa extensively as kit player extraordinaire with some of West Africa’s most popular musicians of the day. Living in Europe since 1996, Mamadou has set up the ‘Super Libidor Band’, a live act with a mean rhythm section which brings audiences to their feet!

XamVolo has infused the Liverpool music scene with his unique and enigmatic take on Jazz and Soul since moving to the city in 2012. Influences from Erykah Badu, Miguel, Frank Ocean and Maverick Sabre echo in his music, with a gospel-infused sophistication and often abstract lyrics.

RIMKA play a rare style of music developed in Liverpool and rooted in heritage from Senegal. This music will make any audience jump and dance. A unique blend of Afro-Jazz, Sabar-Beat, and Mbalax, driven by the frequently insane but always mesmerising, Sabar beats of world renowned Karim Mbaye.

To round off the 2016 live music line-up, Oyé is also pleased to announce that ‘vocal fire cracker’ and reggae songstress, Sherii Ven Dyer will support main stage artist, Randy Valentine at this year’s festival.

This multi talented versatile singer-songwriter is of Jamaican, Indian and Cuban heritage and her set promises various heart warming melodies, with stories of love, loss and conscious satire all over sweet reggae music.

Africa Oyé will take place on 18th and 19th June in Sefton Park, from 12:30pm until 9:30pm both days. Entrance is FREE for all. For more information, please visit africaoye.com
