Chinese New Year: 6 restaurants perfect to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit at across Sefton and West Lancashire

Chinese New Year is upon us and this year the celebrations are for the Year of the Rabbit.

In Liverpool city centre Europe’s oldest Chinatown will be the scene of a festival of colour and sound.

But if you can’t make it into town don’t worry, you can mark the occasion in Sefton and West Lancashire at one of the brilliant Chinese restaurants in the area.

Here is our pick of six of the best places to dine out and celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.

Peacock Inn, Ormskirk

The Peacock Inn, 17 The Stiles, is a firm favourite in and around Ormskirk and for good reason. The food is great, and the service is superb.

You can celebrate Chinese New Year with a special banquet with a DJ and Karaoke on Friday, 3rd February.

The menu features favourites like chicken and sweetcorn soup, salt and pepper scallops, crispy duck, sizzling steak in black bean sauce, and streamed fresh seabass with ginger and spring onion. It costs £38 per person and looks like a brilliant night.

New China City, Southport

Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit with a night at one of Southport’s favourite Chinese restaurants.

New China City, in King Street, has been established for more than 25 years serving Dim Sum, Chinese and Cantonese cuisine.

They will have a special five course buffest banquet on 20th and 27th January and 3rd February.

Entertainment will also be on offer with a lion dance, fireworks and a kung fu demonstration.

Lings on Kings, Southport

This Beijing style restaurant in King Street, is celebrating Chinese New Year with a special banquet and music form AcoustiCats.

The cost is £22.95 per person and celebration nights are taking place on Fridays, 20th and 27th January and Saturdays, 21st and 28th January.

The banquet will feature dishes including crispy duck BBQ ribs, lamb and green peppers in black bean sauce.

Cathay Gardens, Southport

To celebrate the Year of the Rabbit, Cathay Garden in Sandown Court, has a special menu priced at £28 per person.

You can enjoy main courses including chicken with cashew nuts, sizzling king prawns and fillet steak in Cantonese sauce.

This traditional Chinese restaurant is well known for its buffets and its New Year nights are great fun.

This stylish Waterloo restaurant is quickly building a reputation as one of the best places to eat in the area.

The menu features favourites like salt and pepper chicken wings, wok fried fillet of seabass and roasted char siu in spicy sauce.
