Free Stuff February: 17 things you can do without spending a penny this month

Congratulations! We made it through what felt like months of January and we’re rewarded with 28 short days worth of February fun.

It’s going to be a busy month what with Valentine’s Day, Global Scouse Day and half term smack-bang in the middle so we’ve rounded up 17 awesome things you can do this month for free. Whether it’s on your own, with the kids or a loved one or pooch, there’s bound to be something for just about everyone! How many will you tick off our list?

1 – Magic at Central Library

Central Library, William Brown St is offering a week of free drop in sessions for kids with magic, puppets and far off adventures galore. Click here for details.

2 – A Breath of Fresh Air

The weather is getting slooooowly better so why not get out for a stroll or a cycle while its dry? We rounded up some great winter walks here.

3 – Save A Life

The Liverpool Blood Donor Centre is located on Dale Street right in the heart of the city and if you sign up to donate blood this, or any month, you could save a life. Not bad for an hour out of your time and you get a cuppa too! Click here to find out more.

4 – Watch All The Super Bowl Action

All roads lead to Texas this month as the Super Bowl party kicks off at Shooters Bar at Bierkeller. With one of the city’s biggest non cinema screens, why watch the action anywhere else? Free standing entry, with food packages available here too.

5 – Say Cheese

Grab your mates, kids and dogs and take on our very own, Statue Selfie Challenge! From these four likely lads to the yellow submarine and the newly unveiled Cilla, there’s a tonne of free fun just waiting to be snapped! Click here for the list.

6 – Get A Head Start at The Phil

Talented, young musicians….UNITE! The Philharmonic Hall is hosting a creative careers day for those seeking a start in the music industry. Ticketed but free, places are limited so get yours here.

7 – Discover Your Northern Roots

Head on over to the Open Eye Gallery, Mann Island and check out North: Identity, Photography, Fashion a free exhibition featuring photographs and interactive exhibits based on our northern influence on fashion and media. All the info here.

8 – Old School Romance

Okay so we doubt many of you will forget about Valentine’s Day, but here’s a totally free and really lovely little post dinner idea. 9 – Get Your Tumble On

The Black E has just announced its new Youth Arts Programme including free gymnastics and circus lessons to local little ones to burn off some steam! Click here to get involved.

10 – Meet A Crime Writing Legend

Firm Merseyside favourite writer, Mandasue Heller, author of the Sunday Times Top Ten Best Seller, Afraid, is dropping by Liverpool Central Library this February to talk about her 15th book Run – a gripping urban thriller set in the gritty criminal underworld. More here.

11 – Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants in Kirkby

Kirkby Gallery is hosting a whole world of fun this February as Pirates, Pants and Wellyphants by children’s illustrator, Nick Sharatt. This fun-packed exhibition includes creative activities for all the family. Find out more here.

12 – Explore the Dunes

We’re so lucky to have miles of beaches right on our door step, so why not get wrapped up and take your pooch for a forage around on the sand dunes at Formby, statue spotting at Crosby, or collecting driftwood sticks at New Brighton?

13 – Step Back In Time with Vintage Fashion

The Shipping Forecast, Slater Street is hosting the Pill Box vintage fashion sale this month and it costs absolutely nothing to wander around and pick up some inspiration for your own look. More info here.

14 – Something Borrowed, Something Bluecoat

If you’re the new proud owner of a bobby-dazzler engagement ring this Valentine’s Day, wy not get the ball rolling for your big day at the Bluecoat Wedding Showcase? There’s Prosecco and canapes while you and your beau or bride take in this unique venue and it’s free to attend. More info here.

15 – Keep On Running

Have you kept to your New Year fitness goals? If not, it’s never too late to start, get your mates together and have a crack at Park Run. There are two totally free 5k Park Run events at both Croxteth Park and Princess Park each weekend, plus Stanley Park runs the Junior Park Run event on Sundays too.
