Creamfields 2016 is on! – What gems are in store for this year?
With just 2 days to go the countdown to the the UK’s number one dance festival is on. Creamfields returns this bank holiday weekend, and with a 4th day added it has officially become the world’s biggest electronic music festival!
Headliner Avicci will be playing his last ever UK show, a new Steel Yard Superstructure will be unveiled and they even have Bongo’s Bingo on the bill this time, so we had to catch up with the gang from Creamfields to find out what we can expect.
It is surely one of the biggest Creamfields line-up’s to date – how do you put it together and when does the wish list get created?
A lot of work goes into creating and delivering a show like Creamfields, and we’re already planning Creamfields 2017. Our customers expect us to deliver the worlds biggest electronic line up which can be quite daunting sometimes but we’re fortunate in the sense that Creamfields has become a rite of passage not just for festival goers but for artists too. We’ve been doing this for nearly 20 years now, we pride ourselves on nurturing new talent, so its great to see those artists grow and become the stars of the future.
With 28 arenas across the weekend we’re lucky that we’ve got the capacity to be able to book over 250 acts across various genres, so as well as booking the big name artists like Tiesto, Avicii, Calvin Harris etc, we’re able to programme various other genres, for example this year we’ve got arenas hosted by the likes of Andy C’s Ram Records, Eric Prydz’ Pryda label, Hard Presents, Mistajams Jam Packed arena, Tidy and Goodgreef, all offering something different and appealing to different peoples musical tastes.
Creamfields 2016 will see the last ever live performance from Avicci, it will be a sad day but we are presuming one hell of show?
This will be Tim’s 5th consecutive year performing at Creamfields and we were touched he chose our festival for last ever UK show, we’ve already been given the heads up that he wants to go out with a bang for this once in a lifetime performance, so fans can expect something really special 😉
One thing we are extremely excited about this year is the unveiling of the Steel Yard Super Structure – Tell us more and what exactly is it?
We always try to keep things fresh at the festival which is a challenge we thrive off, last year we created the worlds biggest outdoor stages, so we had to do something pretty spectacular this year to beat that, so we ripped up the plan and came up with a new blueprint for a few of the stages and arenas on site, the Steel Yard being one. The superstructure is the largest of its kind in Europe and has been created exclusively for us, with a 20,000 capacity arena you need to fill it with some pretty special production and the company we’re working with has delivered just that, using automated technology it becomes a living, breathing, moving behemoth and allows people to get up close and personal, and really be part of the production and its never been used in Europe before.
For the first time ever Creamfields will run for 4 days this year – apart from a bad hangover on Tuesday what other extras can we expect?
The festival starts off on Thursday with the return of the worlds biggest silent disco, what started off as a bit of a novelty a couple of years ago has grown into a monster, its great fun and sets the tone for the weekend ahead. Also, as we’re 4 days now, its important we offer something other than just music, so we’ve been working really hard to offer a whole new ‘experience’ for festival goers – and so the Creamfields Collective was born. Think Vegas comes to Cheshire :-D. We’ve got everything from Bongos Bingo, Buskers, Samba band, Carnival dancers, a fancy dress tent, an Inflatable Church where there’s going to be a range of entertainment happening across the weekend, couples can tie the knot (unofficially of course), we’ve got Morning Glory fitness classes for those wanting to do some hardcore spandex workouts, we’ll have our very own Blind Date hosted by the rough and gruff Mr Cilla Black, dance offs, Pimp My Bridezilla, a Rave Reception Danceathon, Cabaret acts and our Sunday Sermon – Rave Choir.
Creamfields is nearly hitting its 20th anniversary – what is the secret on keeping it fresh and exciting year on year?
Creamfields is constantly growing, and we never rest on our laurels. We listen to what our customers want and never lose focus of what we’re doing.
Finally what is the one thing the Creamfields team are looking forward to most this year?
We’ve got lots of new stuff happening this year so its difficult to name one, but I’m excited to see the Creamfields Collective experience come to life, especially the ‘weddings’ that will be taking place in the Inflatable Church!
