Get on the belter bobsleigh ride coming to Liverpool this Christmas

A unique bobsleigh ride which recreates the high speed twisting thrills of a real ice run is coming to Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival.

The award-winning Ice Jet ride, which is one of only three of its kind in the world, travels at white knuckle speeds of up to 80mph.

Riders in two-seater sled cars can experience the breathtaking banking and super-fast swings of a bobsleigh racing on an ice track, complete with realistic sound and snow effects, and ÂŁ20,000 of state of the art lighting.

The huge ride will be transported to Liverpool on four trailers, and will take a six-man team around three days to set up at the Pier Head site.

It will be one of the major new attractions at this year’s Ice Festival, which runs from November 17 to January 7. It will also feature an extended undercover outdoor ice rink and ice slide, more rides and games for all ages including a ferris wheel, pop-up food and drink stalls and Liverpool’s biggest traditional Christmas market.

A spokesperson for the festival’s ride and attraction operators said bringing the Ice Jet ride was a Christmas coup for Liverpool.

“Ice Jet is a very sought-after ride, there are only three in the world and we’ve worked really hard to secure a deal to bring it over from Germany especially for the Ice Festival,” he added.

“There’s nothing quite like it. It’s got a unique lighting system, it’s fully designed around an ice theme and when you’re in the cars and at top speed it’s like you’re on a real bobsleigh run because it gives you that experience of banking.

“It’s got its own voicebox – a sound system including sound effects – too and there’s a snow machine which blows snow up into the central roof so when you’re going round the outside you get the effect that it’s snowing over you.”

Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival launches on November 17th and runs through Christmas and New Year until January 7.

Adult skate tickets are priced £11.50 / teenagers13-15, OAPs, students & concs £10.50/children 3-12 years £9.50/family (2+2 or 3+1) £36; ice slide tickets are £4 for three runs and can be bought in advance online by visiting www.icefestivalliverpool.co.uk
