We hope all the little ones starting reception at schools across the city have a fab first day today and how about this for a weekend treat! Pirates on the Dock returns to the Royal Albert Dock this weekend for a two day family friendly festival. Expect live canon battles, mermaid parades, arts and crafts and street theatre! Our Simmo has been back in the dressing up box and will be doing her best Pink Lady impression on Friday as Woodside Drive In Cinema, Birkenhead celebrates the 40th anniversary of Grease with Radio City 2. Tickets and all the details here.

It’s World Suicide Prevention Day 2018 and later today representatives from Merseyside mental health services are meeting to work out how they can better support people in distress. With male suicide rates on the increase, James’ Place crisis centre is hosting the event and we’re proud to share our writer Dale Roberts’ honest and frank account of dealing with depression as a young man. You can read it here.

Calling all foodies! It’s just 5 days until Liverpool Food and Drink Festival returns to Sefton Park for a weekend bursting with flavour. You can see celeb chefs such as Raymond Blanc and Gary Usher, sample the very best street food, shop the market and take in a masterclass or two. Tickets are just £7 in advance and more info here.
