Your Invitation to a Magical Winter Wonderland at the Blackpool Tower this Christmas
How about escaping the city crowds for a treat this December with a short trip up the coast, as The Blackpool Tower hosts a series of festive events, with not one, not two, but three new attractions for all the family.
We treated our Kate and the girls on a day out to check out the brand new additions taking place over the Christmas period, starting with a jaw-dropping circus panto! Here’s how they got on….
Christmas Pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk
It’s just over an hour on the train to Blackpool North, direct from Lime Street and me and the girls were buzzing with excitement as we wandered along the sea front to The Blackpool Tower to see Christmas panto, Jack and the Beanstalk!
After a belly busting lunch at Harry Ramsden’s (got to be fish and chips when you’re at the seaside hasn’t it?) we took our seats at the tower circus, loaded up with popcorn, drinks and candy floss! I wasn’t sure if the girls, age 11 were maybe a bit too old for panto, but my concerns were quickly forgotten as they cheered and sang along as the show got underway.
The jaw-dropping acrobatics and aerial stunts made us all gasp while the sing-a-long show tunes, light show and daft antics of Mookey the Clown and Mr Boo had us in stitches! With a scary giant and a real growing beanstalk, we clapped until our hands hurt and booed ’til we were hoarse!
The best thing about the panto being set in the circus is the flexibility to perform all manner of stunts that you couldn’t on a traditional stage.
With an interval long enough to buy yet more sweet treats, get your face painted or meet Mookey and Mr Boo for a photo and autograph, this huge venue has it all. Kids of all ages will love Jack & the Beanstalk at The Blackpool Tower Circus, from 11 to 111. The panto is on now and runs until January 22nd, click here to book your tickets now.
The Snowman at The Blackpool Tower
On 18th December the beautiful Blackpool Tower Ballroom will host two very special shows featuring an iconic winter star.
Following on from their highly acclaimed 33 performance tour last year, Carrot Productions are, once again bringing The Snowman back to life in Blackpool, this time with an added twist.
Fans of the loveable character will be treated to some of the UK’s top musicians perform Howard Blake’s hauntingly beautiful soundtrack live, while the film is shown on a big screen. Viewers will be transfixed as the opening bars of ‘Walking in the Air’ rings out around this unique venue.
The added twist to The Snowman show is a brand new, re-telling of the classic fairy tale, Cinderella, complete with a narrator and orchestra that is sure to have even the youngest viewer transfixed.
There are two performances on December 18th, at 2:30pm and 6pm and each performance lasts around 90 minutes including the interval. Tickets are priced at £17.50 for adults, and £12.50 for children age 4-12 years old. Click here to book your tickets for this wonderfully, moving festive experience.
If your little ones would prefer something a bit more hands on, how about interactive experience? Then the Winter Wonderland in the stunning Ballroom at The Blackpool Tower is for you.
The Ballroom (as featured on Strictly Come Dancing) is going to be transformed for a very special event on December 23rd. As Christmas Eve draws near there’s so much work to be done, and you’re invited to lend a hand to Mrs Claus and the elves as they prepare for the big day.
This 90 minute experience involves a host of activities including helping Mrs Claus in the kitchen, making reindeer food, taking care of the Christmas letters with the elf post-master, getting crafty at the elf school and a sharing a magical sing-along with Santa and Frozen’s Elsa, around the Christmas tree.
Sessions run from 10am until 4:30pm on December 23rd and would make a truly special gift for your little ones this Christmas. Tickets are priced at £19.95 per child, which also admits one adult, additional adult tickets are available priced at £5. No trip to Blackpool would be complete without a few sticks of rock and a load of selfies on the Comedy Carpet on the prom. With the famous Illuminations packed away for another year the resort is in full festive mode and just waiting to show you just how wonderful it is!
There’s a whole host of information available on The Blackpool Tower website here, which will help you plan your visit, from car parks to wheelchair access, where to eat and baby changing!
