This is what happened at The Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2017
The stunning St George’s Hall was packed to the rafters last night as the very best of our city regions restaurants, bars, hotels and visitor attractions prepared to be crowned as the cream of the crop.
The annual Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards celebrate the successes and achievements of the best tourism businesses and people across the city region’s thriving Visitor Economy. Now in its third decade, winners past and present continue to reap the benefits from receiving an accolade and a number of 2017 winners will have the opportunity to represent the City Region at the annual Visit England Tourism awards, in 2018.
St George’s Plateau was awash with beautiful gowns and dapper tuxedos as short-listed nominees from across the City Region grabbed their team selfies before heading inside to the main hall. With more than 15 gongs to award, plus a sumptuous three course dinner, provided by event caterers, Carringtons, guests took their seats as hosts for the evening, our very own Jay Hynd and Claire Simmo took to the stage.
The welcome speeches from Sara Wilde McKeown, chair of Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Board, and Chris Bliss, Estate Director of Liverpool One, were met with cheering and applause as the appreciation for what the city region has achieved in the last year received a warm toast. With spirits high (literally) Jay and Simmo expertly steered the event into the prize giving.
There were some surprised faces, lots of hugging and even a few tears of joy shed as the very best of our City Region representatives took to the stage in a succession of top class talent.

Winner of the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award, a rather stunned looking Paul Askew, received a standing ovation as he joined Liverpool One CEO, Chris Bliss on stage. Paul spoke passionately about the importance of investing the city region’s young people and giving them opportunities to excel in the hospitality industry.
In the year when the City Region celebrates Sgt Pepper’s 50th anniversary, we were delighted to see The Beatles Story, The Beatles Fab Four Taxi Tours and Beatles Childhood homes all collect a gong. The popularity of the Fab Four not only draws in visitors from around the world, it also keeps them coming back time and time again as the city offers something new to experience with every visit.
We love nothing more than shouting loud and proud about what’s going on in and around our city region here at The Guide Liverpool and we’d like to say a huge congratulations to all the nominees, winners and event organisers, Eventful and say thank you for making our job so much fun!
Here’s to another phenomenal year!
