Local Music Spotlight: Clare Sophia

Clare Sophia is fast becoming one of the most recognisable names on the local music scene, last year she was a finalist in the Best of Liverpool competition and this year she has already been shortlisted as one of the LIMF Academy 2016 musicians and has gigs at Liverpool Loves & Liverpool Pride, throw in a new single too and 2016 is shaping up pretty good so far. Clare Sophia is on our local music spotlight.

When did you realise that you had a voice like that?

I’ve been singing for years, music has always been a big part of my life. Initially the dream was to be a singer, until I started writing. I didn’t realize how much I would enjoy it, I feel like I can give more of myself to people when I write. I’m working with some very talented musicians and producers at the minute.

Describe your style of music…

I guess it’s Soulful Electronic/Pop that’s what I’m aiming for with the EP. The singles are Dance/Commercial House, which I have been doing quite a bit of.

You had a huge 2015, apart from appearing on The Guide Liverpool about 15 times what were your other highlights?

Probably the gigs abroad, I love performing in Ibiza you just can’t beat the vibe there it’s crazy. Ibiza has such a massive place in my heart, it’s where I fell in love with dance music.

I spent a lot of last year writing and co-writing with other musicians and producers. I guess 2016 is time to show everyone what I’ve been working on.

Tell us what is in store for 2016?

Well I’ve just released my first single ‘Cold’, which is available now on soundcloud

My second single ‘Voices’ is set for release at the end of May it’s got a real summer vibe to it, and I have featured and written on some cool dance tracks too, so lots to come!

Gig wise I’m booked for some exciting projects here & abroad. I’m performing at LIMF festival in Sefton Park 23rd-24th July. Liverpool Pride 30th July and Liverpool Loves Festival 6th August. I have a few others in the pipeline but I can’t say too much just yet.

You Must be chuffed about being shortlisted for LIMF’s Academy. On a scale of 1 to 10 how excited are you?
Probably a 10, it’s such an amazing opportunity.
I’m excited about working with industry professionals and hopefully learning a lot from them. Aside from performing at the festival, I’m most looking forward to doing the songwriting workshops. I’m sure they will be really beneficial – can’t wait!

Let’s talk our favourite subject, Liverpool! Favourite place to party?

There’s so many fun places to choose from. I really love Camp & Furnace, they have some great nights on there. Everyone is raving about ‘Bongo’s Bingo’ at the minute it’s definitely on my to-do list.

Top 3 favourite local musicians?

Oh that’s such a difficult one. The talent in Liverpool is incredible, but I would have to say my 3 favorite are; Lapsley, Bill-Ryder jones & Mic Lowry.

Favourite place to chill?

Leaf or Baltic Social – the food is amazing and both venues have acoustic nights on, so the vibe is nice and chilled.

Fav place to eat?

I’m such a foodie….. at the minute, I’m into wagamamma it’s delish.

Best gig you have ever been to in Liverpool?

I went to see Maverick Sabre a few years back he smashed it.

I’ve been a fan of his for a while, I think he’s a great writer and his voice is sublime. I believe he’s on at LIMF in the summer how exciting!
