My Music: Local songstress Vanessa Murray
Local songstress Vanessa Murray has her first ever EP launch gig this Friday, we asked her to tell us more and give us an insight into her life in music…
I’m Vanessa Murray and I’m 20 year old singer/songwriter from Liverpool.
I am about to release my debut EP ‘It’s About Time’ after 4 years of writing and performing. So to celebrate… I’m having a launch party at Studio2, Parr Street on Friday 6th November! I will be performing with a backing band for the first time and will be supported by 3 wonderfully talented musicians who are: Katy Alex, Dominic Dunn and Shannen Bamford.
Also on the night I will be holding a raffle on the night to raise money for Liverpool Rehearsal Space Project, who helps young musicians discover their creativity and offers fantastic facilities to record, rehearse and perform. I am raising money for the project because of the support I received from them from the age of 17.
I recorded “I Don’t Wanna Lose You Like This” for the first time at Knotty Ash Youth Centre in Liverpool. The centre also put me forward to enter the “Rock The House” competition in 2013 which I won a part of. The youth centre was so important as it provided facilities for musicians to perform, rehearse, record and be creative for a very small cost (around £1 each!). It also helped young people use music to get off the streets and do something different with their time.
Sadly, the centre has now closed, but I’d now like to give something back to the community by raising money for The Liverpool Rehearsal Space Project (based at Harthill Youth Centre), which is ran by some of the staff which worked at Knotty Ash.
I am therefore raffling off my first ever Acoustic Guitar. I have also had a very generous donation from Senneheiser UK (a set of MOMENTUM headphones RRP £299). Also a third donation, which is been very kindly donated by JKSP Services Ltd – a mix of Wines and Spirits*
ALL RAFFLE MONEY RAISED WILL BE GOING TO THE LIVERPOOL REHEARSAL SPACE PROJECT (Harthill Youth Centre).
The opportunities I have been given would not have been possible without the help and support of the wonderful staff at Knotty Ash. So thank you to those who helped!
Please help support this wonderful cause, and let the wonderful work of the youth workers continue!
I have had so much fun recording the EP and I am incredibly thankful to those involved and to those who have supported it.
