SPORT: Steve Hothersall on Klopp, Salah and Liverpool’s season so far.

In and around the city, the name Steve Hothersall is synonymous with Liverpool Football Club. Having anchored Radio City’s iconic LFC commentary for the best part of 15-years and now as LFCTV’s Match Day host, you might even say that he’s ‘the voice of’ The Reds.

Watch above as Jay caught up with Steve on the back of Liverpool’s scintillating 5-2 semi-final first leg victory over Roma to talk all things LFC, including his memories of that famous night in Istanbul and the magic of Mohamed Salah.

After another dazzling display in which he scored two fantastic goals and provided a further two assists, Salah’s incredible first season at Anfield continues to go from strength to strength. Steve reckons that Liverpool’s Egyptian King will have his eyes set firmly on stealing away the Ballon D’or crown from the Ronaldo and Messi duopoly. If Mo manages to fire Liverpool to their sixth European Cup, then he’ll definitely be in with a shout.

With a three-goal cushion in the bag, Klopp’s men are expected to progress to the Champions League Final. If and when they get there, Steve may feel a tinge of sadness that he won’t get the chance to recreate the moment his co-host John Aldridge lost the plot amidst the celebrations of The Reds remarkable turnaround in 2005. As Steve tells it, Aldo got a little bit carried away and lashed his headphones before making off into the crowd to join the joyous melee. The commentary from that night is the stuff of legend and both Steve and John still get asked about it to this day.

For those of us who aren’t travelling to Rome for the 2nd leg, then Steve’s advice is to make your way to Anfield to catch the game on the big-screen in front of The Kop. Who knows, you may even bump in to the man himself, no doubt internalising full-match commentary. Old habits die hard.

You can catch Steve Hothersall every weekday morning, hosting ‘The Kick-Off’ on Radio City Talk from 7am ’til 11am.
