Speedos at the ready, we’re heading to the pool to keep up our cardio this winter time.
The blustery weather can be enough to make you want to swerve that early morning run but you can still get your cardio hit at one of the many swimming pools across the region throughout the Autumn and Winter months. Whether you want to clock up a personal best in the lanes or simple breast-stroke your way to toned thighs (or even treat the kids to an hour mucking about on the flumes) there’s a pool and session for you.

1 – Aquatics Centre, Wavertree
Our state of the art aquatic centre in Wavertree boasts a 50m and 20m pool and alongside regular public swimming times there are also lane sessions, tri training classes, adult swimming lessons and women only swimming times too. 2 – Dunes Splash World, Southport
Alright so there’s not much about this picture that looks particularly relaxing but why not combine some quality time with the kids with some aqua cardio! Dunes Splash World in Southport is bursting with flume fun and is suitable for all ages. Grab a dingy and relax on the lazy river, hold on tight and brave the many slides or even brave the rapids. 3 – Peter Lloyds, Tuebrook
Peter Lloyds has been the stalwart of school holidays and learning to swim in Liverpool for many years, a summer spent riding the orange flume slide is a right of scouse passage. There’s swimming fun to be had across the Mersey too as Europa Pools, Birkenhead. 5 – Garston Lifestyles, Long Lane
Did you know you can swim up until 9:30pm at Garston baths? Offering up a packed pool timetable, Lifestyles Garston invite you to get a few laps in before work, bring the babies down for a paddle about and even meet the girls for a gab and a few laps before settling down for EastEnders. With two 25m pools, aquacise, swimming lessons, spa afternoons and 6:30-10pm opening times, Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park boasts the perfect location to unwind or get a sweat on, all year round.
