Here’s your Liverpool Sport Guide, 14th November – 20th November.
2016 might not have been the best year, what with a reality TV star being elected as the most powerful man in the world, us Brits voting to leave the E.U and countless, much-loved celebs kicking the bucket, but on a positive note, the world of sport is on fire with action.
Be inspired by all the sporting opportunities across the region and start laying the foundations for a fit and healthy 2017!
What’s Going On?
Everton vs Swansea City (Saturday 19/11 15:00)
Ronald Koeman will be looking to bounce back from the nightmare 5-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge this weekend when his Blues take on Swansea at home. The Swans sit bottom of the form table, having not won a game in their last 6, drawing 1 and losing 5. Everton will be hoping they can take advantage of these sitting ducks and get back to winning way s.
Southampton vs Liverpool FC (Saturday 19/11 15:00)
Liverpool take on their feeder club Southampton on Saturday, with the Reds having been on fire lately, I wouldn’t like to be a saints fan in this game. Jurgen Klopp has got Liverpool firing on all cylinders this season with them having scored an eye watering 30 goals already this season. They currently sit top of the league and whilst title winning talk is premature now, if they keep up this form, we could see the Premier League title on Merseyside for the first time come May 2017.
Four Nations Final at Anfield (Sunday 20/11 14:30)
The Four Nations is a Rugby league tournament including England, Scotland, New Zealand and Australia. This Sunday, the final is being played at our very own Anfield as Australia take on the mighty New Zealand in what is set to be an incredible clash of the heavyweights. Liverpool FC are on the road meaning the big Rugby boys have got the pitch all to themselves, although we’re sure the grounds men aren’t to pleased. Click here to check out the tournament website for details on tickets and fixtures.
Jumper for Goal Posts……not with Pitch Finder
Are you after a game of Footy but don’t know of any local pitches? Maybe you have only just moved to the city and want to get out for a kick-a-bout. Check out this brilliant website https://pitchfinder.org.uk . Simply pop in your postcode and a whole load of pitches local to you show themselves. You can filter by distance, so if you don’t fancy travelling, you can find the nearest to your house. Give it a go!
Melwood Meltdown Beer Festival
Fancy a drink after a long week? Silly question. Prescot Cables FC are hosting a beer festival on Friday night and you are invited. Showcasing 8 different Melwood beers, along with ciders and gins, what’s not to love. Plus, admission is only a Fiver AND that covers your first pint and your festival glass! With live music as well, it looks the perfect way to enjoy yourself whilst supporting a great local club.
Stars of the Week
Next Gen MMA
Saturday night saw the return to action of two of Liverpool’s biggest stars. Paddy ‘The B’ Pimblett and Chris Fishgold both succesful defended their FeatherWeigh and LightWeight Cage Warriors championships rspectivley. Both Scousers endure hard fights against difficult opponents but cam e out on top. Paddy showed how much hard work it took when he vomited during his post fight interview in the cage. The pair didn’t have it all their way and had to really dig deep as champions to ensure they walked away retaining the built. Surely now a break is in and we should see the pair return to the cage in April when the promotion returns to headline our Echo Arena. Details as to how to get tickets can be found here.

A look back
The Smith family are truly remarkable, all four brothers are exceptional fighters and Callum is no different. Callum, the youngest out of Paul, Stephen and Liam, made his professional debut 4 years ago this week, when he defeated fellow Brit Dan Blackwell via Points in Nottingham. The fight took place on the 17th November 2012, and heralded the arrival of the youngest Smith to the pro-boxing world. Callum is currently ranked as the best Super-Middleweight in the world by the WBC. He holds the European Super-Middleweight title, along with the British and WBC Silver titles in the same weight division. Arguably one of the best among his talented family, things are only going to get better for young Callum. Well in lad!
