VIDEO: First Poppy planted at St George’s Hall for Weeping Willow display

The first of the iconic Poppies was planted today at St George’s Hall in Liverpool.

It comes as the city prepares to host the Weeping Window on the façade of the Hall from Saturday 7 November as part of a UK-wide tour of the poppies organised by 14-18 NOW. The sculpture is from the installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red that was created to mark the centenary of the First World War and was originally at HM Tower of London in 2014.

Assistant Mayor, Councillor Wendy Simon, planted the first poppy into the installation at 10:30am this morning.

The Weeping Window will be on display from Saturday 8 November 2015 until Sunday 17 January 2016.

Our reporter Gaelle went along to find out how the stunning piece of art is being put together.
