10 of The Best Liverpool Musicians Filmed for The Guide

We are obsessed with the local music scene in Liverpool, and rightly so, the talent in this city is simply outstanding.

We started filming music segments for our show on Bay TV Liverpool about 12 months ago. We have two live performances per show, that is two a week – you would think in a city as small as ours that surely there wouldn’t be enough bands, singers & performers to fill the slots every week – well think again.

Since we launched we have been inundated with artists wanting to perform, and out of the list of around 400 there really aren’t many at all that we wouldn’t want to shout about. The standard of talent is just so high. We love that together with websites like Get in to this and magazine’s like Bido Lito, that we can give these musicians a platform, and a chance to shine.

We have packed this site with over 100 live performances, some filmed at the city’s biggest festivals like LIMF & Sound City, some acoustic performances filmed in Liverpool bars & restaurants – our plan is to keep bringing you the best in live music and giving the hundreds of talented artists in the area a bigger platform to do what they do best, shine.

There are so many amazing sets to choose from, but we have chosen 10 performances from our back catalogue to give you an idea of just how our city continues to produce the best in musical talent.

Bill Ryder Jones

Wirral singer, songwriter Bill Ryder-Jones has got to be one of the city’s biggest talents. He was playing Sound City 2015 when we asked him to sing for us at the Titanic Hotel overlooking Stanley Dock. It turned out to be the perfect location for this beautiful performance. His third album ‘West Kirby County Primary’ is due out this November and the new single ‘Two To Birkenhead’ is superb. See Bill live at District on November 14th.

Tea Street Band

Dominic Allen, Lee Smith, Nicholas Otaegui, James Albertina and Tim Tierney are The Tea Street Band, if you haven’t heard of them – where have you been? Surely now up there as one of the city’s most recognised, and most loved local bands. Their music is uplifting and designed to to take you away to a better place for a few moments, and it does just that. If you haven’t seen them live you need to get to one of their gigs, and check out heir debut album out now. Our personal favourite tracks are ‘Summer Dreaming’ and the electric ‘Disco Lights’. Timo from the band went solo for this performance, this is ‘Look on Your Face’

This 3 piece pop/rock band from Bootle are smashing it at the moment, not only in Liverpool but gigs coming in from right across the UK. They were winners of Out On Stage 2015 and their debut EP ‘Just Like You’ is a must listen. They recorded an acoustic version of the title track of the EP backstage at LIMF 2015, and we think you will agree these lads have a big future ahead. Check this out.

Shamona Live

Eleanor Nelly

It is hard to believe this singer, songwriter is just 15 years old. She has been gigging around Liverpool for almost 2 years now playing covers that range from heavy rock with an acoustic twist to country, blues, pop and then adding in her own songs in every set. She sang her song ‘Dear Diary’ for us in the build up to the Anthony Walker 10 Festival and it turned out to be the perfect song to fit the atmosphere of the festival. Huge future ahead for our Elly Nelly, the girl with the BIG hair and even BIGGER talent.

The Hummingbirds

One of the most recognised names in Liverpool’s music scene. The Hummingbirds are 5 Piece folk/ rock band who capture that unique Liverpool sound perfectly. Don’t miss them at their now annual O2 Academy gig, Saturday 28th November. There new single ‘Out of the Rain’ is out soon. This is their last single ‘Knocking On My Door’ live on stage at the Mersey River Festival

The Hummingbirds Live

She Drew the Gun

Signed to Skeleton Key Records, Louisa and co describe their sound as experimental pop. Their music is dreamy, cool and classy and their live performance is perfected as you will see in their set from Farm Feast back in May. This is them performing ‘Since Your Not Mine’

She Drew The Gun Live at Farm Feast

Mersey Wylie

We love Mersey Wylie, not only the coolest name in the world but also one of the nicest people in the local music scene. Soul, jazz, blues and pop combine to give energetic and fun performances and quite possible the busiest stage ever on The Guide. She performed ‘Love that’s Real’ with a FULL jazz band at Heebie Jeebies. Check this out.

Mersey Wylie Live

Heartfelt pop at it’s very best. Rosenblume brings Americana to the local music scene. His voice has to be one of the most powerful in the city. This is the title track to his debut EP ‘All Through the Fire’ filmed at NYL at Aloft Hotel

Rosenblume Live

Stephen Langstaff

Fresh form recording in Nashville we had to get local lad Ste Langstaff on The Guide. In our opinion one of the most talented song writers in the city. This is his single ‘Sirens’ performed live at the Light Cinema, New Brighton. He plays Leaf on the 13th November

Ste Langstaff

Dominic Dunn

Again hard to believe that this singer is just 18 years old. Already he has performed at every big festival, released a charity single for Hillsborough campaigner Anne Williams and performed at the Olympics. Domm is our very own little rock and roll star in the making. He joined us at the Albert Dock to perform his single ‘Bury Your Head’

Dominic Dunn Live

MIC Lowry

We couldn’t not mention these lads. Fresh from performing at Glastonbury, touring with Boyz 2 Men, the only scousers to play the main stage at LIMF on the Sunday, and trending worldwide with their last single ‘Supermodels’ MIC Lowry are literally about to explode internationally. Not just a normal boyband, a true vocal harmony group who deserve all the success that we guarantee is coming to them. They performed at the Echo Arena for the With Love From Liverpool gig. This is ‘Heart of Yours’

Watch MIC Lowry Live at the Echo Arena
