5 Things we love about Merseyside-born star, Kim Cattrall
Sex and the City fans across Merseyside have gone crazy over tickets for a very special evening at the Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt tonight as star of TV and film, Kim Cattrall comes home.
‘In Conversation with Kim Cattrall’ takes place at the Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt from 6:30pm tonight and as expected, the event is a sell out! Fans from across the country are flocking to Liverpool for a chance to hear Kim talk openly about her extraordinary life and career, back in her home town.
Kim was greeted with great acclaim and huge affection when she returned to the city of her birth in 2010 to play Cleopatra at the Playhouse. Alongside her unforgettable, Golden Globe-winning creation of Samantha Jones in the HBO TV series Sex and the City, she has crafted a remarkable career in film, television and on stage. Now producing as well as a starring in the award-winning HBO Canada series Sensitive Skin, she is an inspiring role model for women in the industry and remains a proud daughter of Liverpool.
She’s our fave SATC girl, the best at EPIC one-liners and the foxiest 61 year-old around. Kim Cattrall, we salute you!
Here’s 5 things we love about Kim Cattrall……
1 – She’s absolutely straight up about life
Kim is known for being a straight-talker and we love her no nonsense approach to life as a successful actress. She’s quoted as saying:” I’ve been playing sexually aware women most of my life. At this point, I expected to be playing moms and wives. It’s exciting to play a femme fatale.” And…….”My male friends don’t seem to have any feelings of intimidation that I am a 100-watt sex bomb standing next to them.” Total legend!
2 – In a word….Mannequin
If you are not already a HUGE fan of 1987 film, Mannequin, we can’t be friends. The film, a modern re-telling of the Pygmalion myth, tells about an artist named Jonathan Switcher (played by Andrew McCarthy) who gets a job as a department-store window dresser and falls in love with a mannequin (played by Kim Cattrall)—the attraction being that she comes to life on occasion, but only for him. Prepare to LOVE the story and the soundtrack….and to never look at a mannequin the same way ever again.
3 – She played a wicked Cleopatra at the Playhouse
Back in 2010, tickets for Shakespeare’s Antony & Cleopatra, starring Kim as the Queen of the Nile, flew out and our beloved Playhouse Theatre was packed to the rafters with fans. Kim talks passionately about her love of Liverpool and returning to the stage where she used to watch shows as a youngster herself, never forgetting her Mossley Hill roots. “People will boast “I saw Kim Cattrall’s Cleopatra” The Times on Antony and Cleopatra
4 – Her nan babysat Ringo Starr
Okay, hands up, we’ve got no way of confirming this without having a chat with the lady herself but according to Kim’s IMDb page, her nan did indeed babysit a young Ringo Starr. What a claim to fame! Wonder if he was a nightmare toddler?
5 – She pulled the former Prime Minister of Canada
You know the hottie currently in charge of Canada……Justin Trudeau……well back in the day, Kim dated his Dad, Pierre. The two were papped back in the early 80’s and just last year, American TV show 60 Minutes mistook Kim for Pierre’s wife, Margaret. How utterly stunning does Kim look?
Tonight’s event at the Metropolitan Cathedral Crypt is a charity fundraiser and all proceeds will go to support Young Everyman Playhouse. By buying a ticket, you will sustain the ambitious and award-winning YEP programme and provide opportunities for young actors, technicians, producers, marketers, directors and writers, just as it did for playwright Daniel Matthew: “When I was a young lad from the estate, the thought of playwriting seemed ridiculous. YEP has transformed my life; it’s helped me achieve the impossible.”
Kim has played some memorable characters throughout her career and our favourite has to be the iconic Samantha Jones. Click here to find out how awesome a Sex and the City spin-off would be in Liverpool.
