80’s legends, T’Pau are headlining Grand National Thursday
Aintree Racecourse have announced T’Pau will be headlining Grand National Thursday at the Randox Health Grand National Festival on Thursday 12th April.
T’Pau will be performing in the Aintree Pavilion from 17:30, after the days racing, performing some of their chart topping hits including ‘China in Your Hand’, ‘Heart and Soul’ and ‘Valentine’
T’pau burst onto the music scene in 1987 with the hit ‘Heart & Soul’ reaching number four in both the UK and US charts. Taken from the debut album, ‘Bridge Of Spies,’ it’s innovative use of a rap verse by a white female vocalist introduced the world to the distinctive lead vocals of Carol Decker. ‘Heart & Soul’ led to a meteoric rise in T’Pau’s fortunes both in the UK and the US, where the track stayed on the US billboard chart for 6 months.
T’pau’s most successful single, ‘China In Your Hand’ stayed at number one for five weeks and was the longest serving number one of the year. Simultaneously, ‘Bridge Of Spies’ occupied the number one album slot for two weeks. To date, ‘China In Your Hand’ has appeared on more than 150 compilations, and has become one of the most played songs of the 1980’s. After further hits such as ‘Valentine’, ‘I Will Be With You’, and ‘Sex Talk’; The ‘Bridge Of Spies’ album was certified quadruple platinum in the UK, selling 1.2 million copies.
Carol Decker, said: “The Grand National Festival is one of the biggest sporting events of the year and I can’t wait to bring my music to the fantastic people of my birthplace, Liverpool – it’s going to be a superb day!’
By 1997, Carol had taken the decision to build a new T’pau around her and get back on the road after assembling a massive amount of new material. A 25-date UK tour in the summer of 1997and she hasn’t stopped since!
Reunited professionally with Ronnie Rogers, T’pau embarked on the hugely successful #Tpau25live anniversary tour in 2013. Carol and Ronnie went back into studio and wrote and recorded ‘Pleasure And Pain’ which was released in 2015 receiving five star reviews. With the release of Carol’s autobiography Heart and Soul in 2016 T’pau embarked upon the ‘Songs and Stories’ acoustic tour
