A music lovers guide to September gigs in Liverpool

It’s officially autumn; can you believe it? You know what that means – festival season is almost over and it’s all doom and gloom from here on out. WRONG! For us music fans, it’s anything but doom and gloom as our local scene resumes business as usual with some incredible gigs this month.

Shak Omar @ 81 Renshaw – 7th September

81 Renshaw has rapidly become one of the best, small, underground venues in the city, housing intimate gigs that often sell out to make them a belter night that you won’t soon forget. This time the back room opens its doors to host of R&B stars in the making. The oh so soulful, Shak Omar, headlines the night with support coming from LIMF Academy member, Remée and vocal tour-de-force, Jasmine Johnson (she is one for the future, so take note!) Tickets still available here.

The Daft Punk Orchestra @ Invisible Wind Factory – 8th September

The first of two classical re-works this month, the dock road’s Invisible Wind Factory welcomes something very different through its doors. A London based, 16-piece orchestra purely devoted to performing the EDM hits of Daft Punk’s back catalogue. It is something that we had never imagined we would hear, but something that gets our musical senses tingling. The show is touring all over the UK with this being its Merseyside stop. Make sure that you don’t miss out on this one, because we’re not sure that you’ll see anything else like it…or will you? Get your tickets now.

Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club @ 15th September – Camp and Furnace

A modern classic, the Craig Charles Funk and Soul Club returns home to Camp and Furnace, for another night of bangers. Craig Charles is an iconic character across the UK, whether for his TV appearances or his skills behind the decks but he has never left his roots behind, frequently coming back to deliver this local favourite. His Boxing Night shindigs have become a staple of the season, and this can be treated as one hell of a warm up. Get your tickets now, before they go, as usual.

Deaf School @ Everyman Theatre – 21st & 22nd September

Deaf School make a comeback to their hometown, once again, with their unmistakable sound and live show. Returning to our wonderful Everyman Theatre 45 years after the band was born, these influential music makers will be treating audiences to the classics, as well as new material from their 2017 album, Let’s Do This Again Next Week. Get your tickets here.

Notorious B.I.G – An Orchestral Rendition of Ready To Die @ O2 Academy – 22nd September

The second of our orchestral re-imaginings, Notorious B.I.G is brought back to life in a way that many won’t have ever thought possible. His ground breaking album, Ready To Die, was a landmark for Hip Hop both musically and lyrically. Now, thanks to the folks behind Re:imagine, this audience favourite of their orchestral reworks hits the road, touring all over the UK. This will be one of the most innovative gigs of the year, and their certainly won’t be anything else like it…well, except from The Daft Punk Orchestra, but how often does something like that happen?! Tickets still available here.

Pale Waves @ O2 Academy – 24th September

Pale Waves are an upcoming band that everyone in the North West of the country are immensely proud of after they shot to fame back in 2017. They have since been included in the BBC Sound Of 2018 nominations and have continued to release bigger and better music with every release. This autumn they hit the road, fresh from festival season for what is sure to be a sell out gig at our O2 Academy. Get your tickets for this Indie feast now.

SPINN @ O2 Academy – 28th September

We always try to include some upcoming Scouse talent in the gig guide and surprise, surprise; it’s never very hard to do. This month sees local lads, SPINN, come to the O2 Academy to build on what has already been a blockbuster year for the 4 piece. Their super trendy, raw take on the Alt-Indie genre that we do so well here in Liverpool, has earned them a regular place on Dave Monks’ BBC Introducing show, as well as a constant rotation on the UK touring circuit. The ball is truly rolling on this one, so make sure you’re part of it. Get your tickets now.

Abandon Silence Re-Launch @ 24 Kitchen Street – 28th September

Be part of something special at the end of the month as one of our premier, underground club nights returns to the city to launch it’s Autumn/Winter season. The club night are keeping their cards close to their chest by only trickling out two of the headliners and urging us to keep a keen eye out as they tantalise us with more detail throughout the month. One thing we do know is it’s going to be a night to remember so get your tickets here.
