Beauty & the Beast to bring Christmas magic to the Black-E this year

This Christmas, The Black-E Liverpool will transform in to an enchanted castle as Liverpool based theatre company Drops of Light CIC present their festive offering for 2017, Beauty & the Beast.

Book your tickets for the show throughout October and pay no booking fee.

Beauty & the Beast is a feel good family show that tells the story of a young woman named Beauty (Tori Hargreaves). Beauty lives in a quiet village with her father Egbert the Inventor (Alan Stocks). Beauty feels like she doesn’t belong, her family and friends, including Gorgeous Gaz (Ciaran Kellgren) poke fun at her love of books and she longs for an adventure to take her away.

The adventure Beauty longs for comes in the form of an enchanted castle, home to The Beast (Nick Langmead), Basic Bertie (Adam McCoy) and Dame Dolly (Jamie Greer) who are trapped by a spell, cast to teach The Beast a lesson in judging others. Fairy Rose (Helen Carter) adds a touch of magic to the production as she haplessly tries to reverse the spell and save the castles inhabitants from a life trapped inside its walls.

Beauty and the Beast is written by Jessica Lea and directed by Sam Donovan. Jessica currently writes for Hollyoaks and Eastenders and enjoys writing for children’s television with credits including The Dumping Ground, Tracey Beaker and Grange Hill. Sam trained as an Actor at the Academy of Live and Recorded Arts (ALRA) London, his directing credits include ‘Our Boys’ by Jonathan Lewis ‘David Copperfield’ by Giles Havergal. Sam is also cofounder of Performers Theatre School and Merseyside Academy of Drama (MAD).

The production is set to an original score created by Musical Director Henry Burnett. Henry studied at LIPA (Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts) and has worked on a number of theatre productions including Little Shop of Horrors, James & the Giant Peach and Jack & the Beanstalk. Audiences can expect a mix of classic and modern pop tracks that are sure to get toes tapping and have the whole family singing along.

Beauty & the Beast will run from 6th – 31st December in one of Liverpool’s most iconic arts buildings The Black-E, which stands majestically next to the famous Chinese Arch, offering a magical setting for families to enjoy a unique Christmas treat.
