Check out the free, family fun on offer at Newsham Park this Saturday

Live music, sport and workshops are set to take over Newsham Park on Saturday 24th June 2017 at the Academy of St Francis of Assisi’s (ASFA) Summer Festival.

Now in its twelfth year, the Summer Festival brings together not only the local community, but also welcomes those from further afield to Newsham Park for a day of family fun.

Free to all and filled with activities for young people and families, the festival will host live performances, offer arts and crafts sessions, and have stalls offering street food from across the globe. Organised by Lisa Heron, Director of Progress at ASFA, the Summer Festival is a wonderful day out for all of the family.

The Academy will be opening up its facilities to host parts of the festival which will expand out across the park. ASFA is dedicated to creating close bonds with the community and the festival is just one of the many projects the Academy has in place to promote its community values.

A Kids Zone featuring a bouncy castle will be available for the little ones as well as music and dance workshops, cake craft and even gardening activities for those green-fingered visitors. In true festival style, a line-up of live music will be set across a range of stages with ASFA students taking to the professional stage to showcase dance, drama and music skills.

Table tennis, football and other sports will be played across the grounds giving families the opportunity to get active.

Tracey Greenough, Head of School at ASFA, says: “The Academy of St Francis of Assisi’s Summer Festival is one of the highlights of the year.

“To see so many families come together to enjoy the Academy’s facilities and the beautiful grounds of Newsham Park is testament to the hard work that is put into organising the event. I’m looking forward to enjoying the festival on Saturday and hope to see lots more families join us again this year.”

The festival will take place from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 24 June 2017. Directions to Newsham Park can be found by clicking here.
