Easter holiday fun is closer and cheaper than you think with Merseyrail

 Schools out for Easter and we’ve lined up two whole weeks of family fun with Merseyrail.


Treating the kids needn’t cost the earth this Easter holidays as the region is bursting with lots of free, fresh-air filled activities and events for kids of all ages to enjoy. From Southport to South Parkway, Merseyrail offers services right across the region so whether its a day at the beach, a wander around a city museum or a fabulous family dinner, Merseyrail will get you there.

This Easter there’s so many brilliant activities for kids of all ages to enjoy and the best bit is, lots of them are free too! Dinosaurs have invaded Liverpool ONE and thanks to a brilliant new app, your kids can interact with them. Fun and educational – they’ll never know! Elsewhere there’s fun fairs, Easter crafts, panto’s, Disney on Ice is back in town and lots more.

Family tickets cos just £11 and include unlimited, off-peak travel for up to 5 people (it covers 1 or 2 adults travelling with children ages 5-15). Family Tickets are valid for unlimited travel, only excluding peak hours 06.31 – 09.29 Monday – Friday. Outside of these hours, including all day weekends and Bank Holidays you can hop on and off the train as much as you want with a Family Ticket!


We’ve lined up 6 of our favourite events and activities to try out this Easter with Merseyrail, all aboard…

1 – Dino Hunting at Liverpool ONE

L1 Dinosaurs Unleashed

Dinosaurs have taken over Liverpool ONE this Easter and with the help of a nifty little augmented reality app, your kids can become explorers for the day. Get ready to chase Raptors, follow Apatosaurus’s and of course, hide from the mighty T Rex! Check out Chavassic Park here.

2 – Indoor Fun Fair, Exhibition Centre Liverpool

Exhibition Centre Liverpool has the answer to April showers with a huge indoor fun fair. Running daily from 15th-22nd April there’s a huge inflatable obstacle course and rides for all ages. More here.

3 – Mini Roman Adventure, Aintree

If your kids love nothing more than outdoor games and getting muddy, this is the East activity for you. Roman Adventure, Aintree is offering a fab kids session featuring loads of games and a family BBQ. More here.

4 – Craft & Create at Port Sunlight

Lady Lever Art Gallery invites you to get crafty this Easter with free see, make and do sessions for children under 10. Wander the gallery and pick your inspiration before getting arty with gluing and sticking. Session times here.

5 – The Wizard of Oz, Epstein Theatre

Our very own Simmo and Lindzi Germain are heading to the Emerald City as The Epstein Theatre brings The Wizard of Oz panto to life this Easter. Showing from 11th – 22nd April, get your tickets here.

6 – Discover & Dine at Royal Albert Dock

Royal Albert Dock has so much on offer for families this Easter. From 8th – 22nd April kids can explore the bunny trail, try out Spring craft workshops and take part in a giant chocolate egg competition, plus loads more. Details here.

7 – Wirral Ark Pizza Run, Birkenhead Park

How do you fancy completing a gentle 5k of Birkenhead Park with the whole family this Easter and tuck into a free slice of pizza at the end? All while raising much needed funds for Wirral Ark? Entry in to the Wirral Ark Pizza Run on 20th April is from £10, kids and dogs welcome too. Enter here.

8 – Easter Egg Hunt at Southport Pier

The Easter bunny has been up to his old tricks hiding eggs on Southport Pier again and you’re invited to fill your basket and complete and Easter activity sheet to get your free egg. A paddle in a swan pedalo and a go on the fair will finish off your visit perfectly. See what is on this Spring in Southport here.

The Big Kids

If you’re not ‘totally cringe’ and still managing to hang out with your older kids, why not check out the brand new Alice Room at Escape Hunt, Albert Dock and Junkyard Golf at Liverpool ONE for a fun experience that scores serious cool points. James Street is your nearest Merseyrail station.

For on-trend eats we recommend pizza and whether you choose Rudy’s Neapolitan or Crazy Pedro’s, there’s a slice there for everyone. Oh and remember, when they’re teens you don’t have to let them win! James Street and Liverpool Central are your nearest Merseyrail stations to grab a tasty slice.
