EDITOR’S PICKS: What’s on this weekend in Liverpool?
Another busy week in the city and another boss weekend ahead.
Over the last seven days we’ve celebrated International Women’s Day with our top 25 women in Liverpool and we’ve brought you this years incredible LIMF lineup that includes the one and only DJ Jazzy Jeff.
The LIMF lineup also includes Example headlining the Saturday and Hacienda Classical headlining the Sunday. I’ll be back on hosting duties on the Central Stage and we’ll bringing you all the backstage action again on LIMF TV. Dates for your diary are Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd July. This year the event is ticketed, for just a fiver per day you get to see all of the incredible artists and see our Sefton Park come alive with some of the UK’s finest musicians and DJ’s. I’d pay triple that just to see Jazzy Jeff doing Boom Shake The Room!
So this weekend then, aside from treating our Mums and Nans for Mother’s Day, there’s all sorts going on across the city…
Moose, Dale Street
One of the city’s best loved breakfast and brunch restaurants has been serving up the sweetest pancakes in town for over 10 years now. Moose on Dale Street’s all day breakfast menu is huge with everything from waffles to Eggs Benedict, American pancakes to breakfast nachos. The coffee is strong and the service is always on point. Perfect for a Saturday or Sunday hangover cure!
60 Hope Street
Can you believe 60 Hope Street is almost 20 years old?! One of the city’s finest restaurants has been treating us to some serious tasty grub since 1999. Perfect for lunch or dinner anytime of the week, situated of course on our stunning Hope Street and perfect for your Mum this weekend.
Slim’s Pork Chop Express, Seel Street
Slim’s Pork Chop Express offers some of the city’s best-smoked BBQ dishes. Think ribs, pulled pork, fried chicken and some of the best burgers in Liverpool. For Mothers Day they have their delicious Sunday roast available with free prosecco for all Mums. The cocktails are good, atmosphere is relaxed, and the tunes are great too!
For a Drink…
The Old Bank
The First National pub on James Street has been completely transformed. My eyes nearly fell out my head when I walked in this week, and hit wasn’t the pints I’d drank before getting there that done it. Owners Pub Invest Group have put brand new life into the former bank which was built in the 1920’s. It’s classy, comfortable, the food offering is superb and you really do feel like you are stepping back in time. Go and check it out for yourself this weekend!
For Something Different…
Liverpool Comic Con
Superheroes, comic book icons, movie baddies, WWE wrestlers and a whole lot more land at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool this weekend for the city’s very first, self-produced Comic Con. The actual real life Mini-Me is here, alongside Dirk Benedict, Paul McCann aka Dr. Who and the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno plus a whole lot more. It’s a real celebration of cult comic icons and you’ll see literally thousands of your screen favourites descend on the waterfront as cosplay takes over the city. Ginger Ninja costume at the ready for me!
For a Show Stopper…
Wicked, Liverpool Empire
Prepare to be spell-bound as Wicked has flown back into Liverpool and our Empire theatre. It’s basically the prequel to the Wizard of Oz telling the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West became known as ‘Wicked’. It’s completely magical, and the storyline will blow you away. I got to see the show this week and felt like I’d been on my jollies to Oz for two hours. If you’ve never experienced it then take my word, you need to get down to the Empire before 31st March!
For your Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea…
Free glass of fizz, afternoon tea, live music from swing star Alan Cross and the luxurious surroundings of one of Liverpool’s most premier hotels, the Hilton in Liverpool ONE. Your Mum will love this!
For free Mother’s Day gin…
Yard & Coop, Liverpool ONE
On Sunday 11 March, the home of buttermilk fried chicken, based in Liverpool One, will be making sure all those Mother Hens feel well and truly spoilt – and they’ll even let you take the credit. All diners have to do is take a trip to Yard & Coop, order a main course for mum, and the team will make sure her tasty food is served with a free glass of Yard & Coop’s favourite gin and a mixer of choice. After all, she deserves it.
For Mother’s Day Prosecco & Jazz…
Lock and Key, Duke Street
Lock and Key on Duke Street have the perfect Mother’s Day treat for you and your Ma this Sunday with their regular jazz night. Not only will your Mum love the soothing sounds of their regular Jazz musician from 8pm and 2 for £10 prosecco cocktails all day long.
Whatever you get up to this weekend, make sure you look after your Mum – she has put up with you all these years after all!
