Everyman & Playhouse celebrate record-breaking festive season, as theatres reveal next year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto title

To celebrate a record-breaking festive period, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse Theatres are sprinkling some extra panto cheer across Liverpool, by revealing the 2019 Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto at the Everyman.

Following huge demand for The Snow Queen, with 95% of seats sold, the theatres are proud to announce the return of regular writers Sarah A Nixon and Mark Chatterton for this year’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto… Sleeping Beauty.

The announcement comes after a hugely successful Christmas for the Everyman & Playhouse. The two theatres welcomed over 48,000 people through their doors for The Snow Queen and Spymonkey’s A Christmas Carol.

This figure includes 2,953 families, 4,442 schoolchildren and 1,916 groups who visited the theatres during the festive period.

Of those groups, 73 were from communities across the City Region that would not normally engage with theatre. These tickets are only made possible by a commitment from the Theatres and through generous contributions from donors.

Gemma Bodinetz, artistic director at Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, said: “This Christmas concluded a great winter season and was one of the best ever Christmases at the Everyman & Playhouse, with both our festive offerings playing to packed and delighted audiences.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all the lovely people who came to see our shows throughout 2018. One of the best thank yous we can think of is the announcement that our next Rock ‘n’ Roll panto will be Sleeping Beauty written and directed by our perennial writer/director duo of Mark Chatterton and Sarah Nixon. No doubt the cast will feature some well-loved faces too…

“Spymonkey, who gave us their unique and much-loved take on A Christmas Carol, are back in our packed spring season with Cooped, so you won’t have to wait so long to see them again. With so many riches in the coming season we hope we can help chase the winter chill away!”

Once again the Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto will include an autism friendly/relaxed performance for 2019. There will also be a range of other performances for audience members with access needs including British Sign Language, captioned and audio described performances during the run.

Tickets go on sale in mid-February, but panto fans can be the first to know about the latest announcements by signing up to the E&P newsletter. Go to the website here to sign up for all the latest news.
