Jesse Malin is coming to Liverpool!
New York singer-songwriter and rock musician Jesse Malin has announced a short run of 2016 UK headline tour dates beginning at Arts Club in Liverpool on 11th July with support from Don DiLego and The Touristas + Diane and The Gentle Men.
The tour, his last in the UK for 2016, is in support of forthcoming new single ‘Whitestone City Limits’, the latest track to be taken from his 2015 album ‘Outsiders’ which is out now on One Little Indian / Velvet Elk Records.
His 11th solo release, born of late night recording sessions in the Pennsylvania Woods with producer Don DiLego far from any expectations and preconceptions, ‘Outsiders’ presents Jesse Malin in his rawest form yet. Malin himself describes the album as “a record built out of optimism and disgust – one for leavers, the believers, the hustlers and the chicken hawks who could never catch us.”
Doffing his cap to ‘Nutbush City Limits’ Jesse says “I wrote this song fooling around at a sound check in Memphis after hearing the Ike and Tina classic covered by AC/DC. I’ve always loved those songs about leaving home…I also felt I needed a little Chuck Berry in there – without the cameras in the toilets!”
Malin began his music career, at the age of 12, as the front-man for the seminal New York City hardcore band Heart Attack. Following their demise in 1984, Jesse worked on several other projects, including the band Hope, before joining glam punk band D Generation for which he was the lead singer for eight years. As one of New York City’s most noted bands of the 1990s, D Generation released three albums, including No Lunch before eventually disbanding in April 1999.
None of this stopped him from writing music, however, and Malin went on to form two other projects, PCP Highway (with former D Generation bandmates Howie Pyro and Joe Rizzo) and Bellvue (also named Tsing-Tsing for a brief time) before embarking on a highly successful solo career; the latter band released one album, To Be Somebody on Goldenseal Records. He has also collaborated with long-time friend Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen and members of Green Day.
Meanwhile Jesse’s 2nd album, ‘The Heat’ is re-issued by One Little Indian as a repackaged 2x cd and 2x Vinyl with a second disc of bonus material on the 29th July.
