LIVERPOOL DANCERS PREPARE FOR THE GREATEST DANCER SEMI-FINALS
Two year 11 students from Liverpool dance school, Studio 76, are celebrating after making it through to the semi-finals of BBC 1’s The Greatest Dancer.
Studio 76 students Paige Errington (16) and Ruby Barnes (15) impressed the audience during their Hollywood themed performance last weekend as part of the Dane Bates Collective, which also incudes fellow dancer Ellie Roberts (18) from Everton Valley. The dancers are busy rehearsing for their next live appearance on this Saturday’s show (16 February).
Paige, Ruby and Ellie have been performing as part of Dane Bates Collective since it was created over a year ago by Studio 76 dance teacher and choreographer, Dane Bates. The contemporary dance group is made up of nine girls from across the country, aged between 13-19, who rehearse at Studio 76.
Maxine Ellis, Principal at Studio 76, is urging people in Merseyside to support the Dane Bates Collective as they face the public vote again this weekend. She said: “We are all extremely proud of the Dane Bates Collective for winning over the audience on last Saturday’s show and making it through to the final six. Their performance was absolutely fantastic.
“I am particularly proud of Studio 76 students, Paige and Ruby, who danced brilliantly and I am really looking forward to seeing them perform again this weekend. I hope people in Merseyside will get behind Dane and the girls by voting for the Dane Bates Collective on Saturday.”
Dane Bates, choreographer and dance teacher at Studio 76, who leads the Dane Bates Collective, added: “It’s been an amazing journey so far and I am thrilled we have made it to the final six acts. We’re all super excited about this weekend’s show. Winning the competition would be such a great achievement and with £50,000 prize money and a performance on Strictly Come Dancing at stake, we would be over the moon to make it to the final.”
Paige and Ruby attend Studio 76 on West Derby Road, which provides fully funded dance training for young people from the age of 14. Places are limited to just 20 performers every year and students are required to pass an audition to secure a place on the training college’s BTEC courses. Academic results are also taken into account as part of the application process.
