Liverpool Five Guys celebrates record breaking first week in Queen Square
It has been a record breaking first week for the new Five Guys at Queen Square. It was the 2nd most successful opening worldwide in the company’s history
International fast food chain Five Guys has taken Liverpool by storm. Since opening its doors on Monday 7 December, thousands of burger lovers have visited the new city centre burger joint in Queen Square.
In fact, official figures have revealed that the Queen Square Five Guys is the second most successful opening in the company’s history, worldwide.
The group has more than 1,200 locations in the US and has rapidly grown in the UK, with a total of 31 restaurants opening since 2013.
The Liverpool branch has sold over 10,000 sandwiches, all in Five Guys’ classic American style which boasts over 250,000 topping combinations.
Other impressive stats reveal that the burger joint has sold 3,500 sodas, 3,700 fries and 1,800 shakes, and has gone through 300 cases of meat and 160 bags of potatoes (8.4 ton) since opening.
The new restaurant has also provided 70 new jobs to the local area.
Five Guys began in Virginia, USA, in 1986 by Janie and Jerry Murrell, with the ‘Five Guys’ being the couple’s sons. The restaurant is famous for its casual fast-food mantra, as well as its delicious cheeseburgers and milkshakes.
The news that Liverpool’s Five Guys – located at Promenade Estates’ new £1m transformation of the former Rat and Parrot site – is one of the company’s most successful openings comes as no surprise, given the city’s thriving food and drink scene.
Daniel Hynd, director of Promenade Estates which owns and operates Queen Square, says: “Since Five Guys opened its doors on Monday, the reaction from the Liverpool public has been fantastic.
“The news that it is the second most successful opening worldwide is incredible and is testament to the quality of the Five Guys brand. This success reinforces the fact that quality operators will always be welcome in Liverpool, and will add further fuel to the growth in the city’s leisure industry.
“It’s particularly pleasing for Queen Square and the St Georges Quarter, which has seen a surge of investment in significant cultural and leisure developments in the past 18 months, such as the Shankly Hotel and the Royal Court refurbishment.”
A spokesperson for Five Guys, says: “We are proud and excited about our Liverpool Opening. The city boasts a strong and dynamic retail and restaurant mix that we are very happy to join.
“Excitement for our brand opening in Liverpool has been steadily building through social media and other channels and we are pleased to open before Christmas. The Queen Square location provided an ideal opportunity for us to start cooking our burgers and fries in this exciting market.”
