Ma Egerton’s Stage Door named Best Pub in Merseyside in National Awards
Theatre pub, Ma Egerton’s Stage Door was last night crowed Best Pub in Merseyside at a high profile awards ceremony last night. The prestigious British Pub and Bar Awards held at BAFTA in London saw owner Iain Hoskins accept the award from restaurant critic Jay Raynor at the awards ceremony which celebrated the UK’s best pubs and bars.
Ma Egerton’s Stage Door was crowned Merseyside’s best pub, which saw it pitted against almost 500 pubs in the region.
The win caps a remarkable reversal of fortunes for the famous pub which closed its doors four years ago due to declining numbers. The pubs long running celebrity quiz nights hosted by actors including Margi Clarke, Neil Fitzmaurice, Chrisy Rock and currently Tina Malone and Sing Along nights patronized by the likes of Jason Manford, John Bishop, Ross Noble and Corrie’s Richard Fleeshman have all revitalized the Lime Street pub. It’s fresh pizza offering has earned Ma Egerton’s a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor which has ranked it as Liverpool’s best pub, based on customer reviews.
Last year owner Iain Hoskins, has since re-opened another failed pub, Ma Boyle’s on Water Street to great acclaim with endorsements from actress Alison Steadman and singer Mica Paris siting it as a favourite.
