Musical Youth Offered Free Piano Lessons at Liverpool ONE
Liverpool ONE’s popular piano festival, Tickle The Ivories, is now offering visitors even more!
As part of Liverpool ONE’s summer of entertainment, budding piano stars of the future are being given the chance to try their hand at playing too, with free taster lessons.
10-minute piano sessions are open to beginners aged between six and 12, and will take place in the Galleria, near the Odeon from noon to 3pm on Wednesday, August 29.
Associated Board piano teacher, Jane Woodhead, will take young players through their paces and help to instil a love of live music at the same time.
This is a great opportunity for children to learn a new skill and set them on the path to stardom.
Liverpool has a history of producing some of the world’s most renowned musicians including the internationally-acclaimed Paul Lewis, whose father worked on the city’s docks, and fellow piano virtuoso Stephen Hough from Wirral, who as a child studied with a tutor in Hope Street.
Tickle The Ivories is the North West’s biggest piano festival, and in its eight years it has discovered a host of untapped musical talent, with performers of all ages entertaining customers as they shop and eat.
Last year, 10-year-old Harrison Crane from Ormskirk drew a crowd with his rendition of I Giorni by Ludovico Einaudi; with over half of million people tuning in on Facebook too.
Marketing Director at Liverpool ONE, Donna Howitt, said: “Tickle The Ivories has become a firm favourite in the city’s summer events calendar, and we’re always amazed by the level of talent on display and the brilliant performances you can catch as you shop.
“Many of the pianists are young people, so we’re delighted to actively encourage the next generation to get involved. Who knows, we might just find the next piano phenomenon?
“We hope visitors have enjoyed the free programme of summer entertainment hosted at Liverpool ONE. Whether it’s been the circus skills workshops, breath-taking performances or live music, there has been something for everyone this season.”
Jane Woodhead added: “I am delighted to be invited by Liverpool ONE to host these free piano lessons for beginners.
“This is yet another fantastic opportunity which Liverpool ONE is giving to young people who may not previously have thought about learning the piano.
“What better opportunity than a free taster session and in the wonderful surroundings of the open air, with fantastic acoustics. I am really looking forward to the day!”
