From Ponies to Panto, Grotto’s and Gigs, here’s your Ultimate Guide to the week ahead in Liverpool

How is it Sunday evening again already? Pretty sure we blinked and missed the weekend! Well luckily we’ve got yet another full line-up to help you get into the festive mood this week.

From grotto’s to gigs and ponies to panto’s, here’s you ultimate guide to the week ahead in Liverpool.

First up we have to mention our Guide Liverpool Charity Takeover. Over the next few days we will be showcasing the great work that three of the areas best loved and most well known health care charities do. Monday is all about Clatterbrdige Cancer Charity. On Wednesday the spotlight will shine on Alder Hey and on Friday we look ahead to the new Royal Liverpool Hospital. Keep it here for updates and fingers crossed we can help raise awareness and much needed funds for some places very close to the hearts of people on Merseyside.

Monday 5th December

Start your week with a giggle at Camp and Furnace as Stand up for Comedy kicks off at 6:30pm. There’s an all female line-up on the first Monday of each month with host Cath Rice and for your £13.00 ticket you even get a luscious dinner thrown in too! Bargain. Want a piece of the action? Try the Mellowtone Music Quiz at The Jacaranda and put your knowledge to the test at this meeting of musical minds…..and its a Christmas Special! Don’t be a one hit wonder, get a round and be in your seats by 7pm. Prizes include Vinyl, clobber and possibly a tenner! Tickets are just £2 and can be bought in advance here.

For a bit of after-school fun why not have a go at the Snowflake Trail? Grab a bite to eat at the Christmas Market at St George’s Hall, pick up a map and see if you can find all 12 giant snowflakes around the city centre. Tuesday 6th December

The stars of TOWIE are brining some serious sparkle to St Helens this Christmas as Amy Childs and Harry Derbridge bring the story of Aladdin to the Theatre Royal. We love this venue as its cosy enough for every seat to feel part of the action and the ticket prices are affordable too! Check out this magical family pantomime and get your tickets here.

The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Roz Gladden invites you to hang your very own star on the Liverpool Town Hall Christmas tree from this Tuesday. The huge tree stands proudly in the stunning Town Hall foyer where visitors can dedicate a star to a loved one for £5, the proceeds of which support four local charities. If your mum is cooking the Christmas dinner this year, why not treat her to a little meal out before hand, it’s not easy slaving away in the kitchen all day you know! There are lots of Liverpool restaurants to choose from for Tuesday night treat. Our current fave’s are the Marvellous Winter Marquee at The Club House, Liverpool One where there’s a new winter menu featuring pork kebabs and mulled wine! Newly opened Neighbourhood, Castle Street who are blazing a trail with sashimi and lobster rolls, and who’s mum doesn’t love a bit of glamour? Get over to Sugar Hut, Victoria Street for a glass of bubbly and a traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings…it might even be as good as your mums!

 

Wednesday 7th December

Sticking with food, Liverpool One welcomes a whole new concept in quirky dining as Cosy Club launches on Wednesday 7th December. Situated on the corner of Paradise Street (next to Starbucks) this first floor eatery encourages causal dining with a real homely feel. Belt our your favourite karaoke tune at Heaven, Victoria Street this Wednesday as Sing it Sista get into full lip sync battle mode! Have you got what it takes to make it to the top? Former Verve frontman, Richard Ashcroft plays the Echo Arena this week as he performs tracks from his fourth solo album ‘These People’. Wigan born Richard will also play a number of his legendary tracks from his solo career and that of The Verve. Tickets start from £42, standing and are available by clicking here.

 

Thursday 8th December

Another festive after-school treat is taking place down on the Albert Dock. From dusk until 11pm the historic buildings come alive with a choreographed light show that tells the story of the Albert Dock clock-keeper. Little ones will watch in wonder as this 4D animation plays out on a unique canvas. The spectacle is free and can be viewed every night until 2nd January 2017. You’d be absolute nuts to miss out on the annual Independent Liverpool Christmas Festival at the Great Baltic Warehouse, kicking off on Thursday evening at 5pm. With food stalls from Free State Kitchen, Cheese & Co, Laura’s Little Bakery, Barley and Beans and tonnes more, why go anywhere else for your tea? While you’re out and about see if you can spot the only mobile Christmas grotto in Liverpool, The Santa Bus as it tours around the city centre before parking up at the Pier Head. Little ones (and not so little) can hop on board for a chat with the big man himself, who along with Rudolph and his elves, is waiting to hear your Christmas wishes. Friday 9th December

Wirral four piece indie-rock band, Hooton Tennis Club play the Invisible Wind Factory this Friday with tracks from their debut album. Billed as “Gloriously slack-sounding, lo-fi” by NME we reckon this is not to be missed. Tickets are £9 and available by clicking here.

Our very own music guru, Alex Dop recommends getting down to his new favourite venue, The Olympia, to see cult-heroes, Ocean Colour Scene as they celebrate the 20th anniversary of the legendary Moseley Shoals album. Sunday 11th December

Constellations are throwing an amazing Christmas event this weekend. The Lapland Experience allows little ones to get right into the thick of the winter preparations with activities and crafts for all ages. For the £1 5 ticket price you can meet and decorate biscuits with Mrs Claus in her busy kitchen, take part in an Elf workshop and make reindeer food plus loads more.
