A Forever Home – Dogs Trust Merseyside Re-homing Centre, Huyton

Dogs Trusts is a place of wonder. If you’re interested in rehoming a dog, be preared to fall in love at least 25 times as you wander around the kennels at Dogs Trust Merseyside. Re-homing centres can be heartbreaking places, some dogs have experienced horrendous cruelty and conditions. Dogs Trust staff work incredibly hard to support and re-train these beautiful creatures in order for them to get a fresh start, and find their forever home.

If you’ve already found your four-legged soul mate, you can still make a difference. Cash donations, cushions, blankets, play toys and food are all welcome at the centre, especially as the winter kicks in and more animals are abandoned for the next big chritmas must have toy! Click here for more information and appointments for re-homing.

A Helping Hand – The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association, Knotty Ash

Puppy Love

Guide Dogs are often the single most important factor in a blind persons life. They provide a visually impaired person with a sense of independence, confidence and the ability to fully express themselves through movement, rather than having to rely on someone to guide them. Based in Knotty Ash, the Guide Dogs Liverpool team provide over 270 guide dogs to owners at a time. If you’re not quite ready for a puppy of your own, find out how you can get involved with puppy walking, fostering or volunteer for this amazing cause, head over to their website here.

A Walk on the Wild Side – Beaches, Parks and Forrests

Sefton Park

Sefton Park

We reckon you could take your dog on a different walk every day for a year as Merseyside is teaming with stunning beaches, humongous parks and woodland for your pooch to stretch their legs. We love nothing more than seeing dogs having a blast playing fetch, frisbee and and frolicking in the waves.

Here’s our Top 5 Places to Visit with Your Dog

1 – Crosby Beach – Park up at Burbo Bank and let your dog go nuts running around the Iron Men and barking at the gentle waves. Dont foget a towel for the boot! Mmmmm the smell of wet dog!

2 – Sefton Park – Lots of quiet winding paths for your dog to have a little sniff about before bombing it down the hill after a tennis ball and jumping in the lake! Liverpool’s biggest green space is perfect for those out for a run with their dog too! Again, a towel might come in handy!

3 – Wirral Way -A great way to spend an Autumnal Sunday afternoon, stick your trainers on and walk the Wirral Way with your pooch. If you manage the whole 12 mile route along the former Birkenhead Railway line, you’ll both be ready for a well earned bow of water (or pint) and a nap in front of the fire!

4 – Stanley Park – We’ve laughed are heads off at so many dogs taking on the Sunday league players at Stanley Park (Some have got proper skills as well). Inspired by the huge new main stand that over shadows the park, let your dog test out their ball skills with a bit of one on one in the fresh air!

5 – Liverpool Loop Line – Free from traffic, this ten mile route can be broken down into smaller sections if you’re not feeling quite so energetic. There’s tonnes of overgrowth and bushes for dogs to explore, and if you’re out for a run your dog is safe to plod along too! Watch out for those cyclists though!
