Claire Simmo catches up with LFC legend Rafa Benitez at Run For the 96 2017
Former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who took the 2005 squad to glory to win The Reds’ fifth European Cup, attended the Run For the 96 for the second year.
During his time at Anfield and since, Rafa Benitez has developed a strong bond with the Hillsborough families. He proved very popular with last year’s Run For The 96 crowd, posing for photographs and signing autographs.
Rafa Benitez said at last year’s event: “This is a day to enjoy and remember. My family took part. I love the city, I love the fans and Liverpool is home. Run For The 96 5K is a great idea to support the families and the memory of The 96.”
The overall aim of Run For The 96 is to remember and celebrate the lives of the 96 Liverpool fans, who were unlawfully killed in the Hillsborough tragedy on 15 April 1989. Run For The 96 5K also remembers the families of The 96 and the survivors, who have tirelessly fought for justice with the utmost dignity.
