Southport serves up Summer of Ice Cream
Ice cream and summer go hand in hand, especially at the seaside, which is why Southport is going big with its celebrations for National Ice Cream Day 2019 on ‘Sundae’ 21 July 2019.
Southport’s most celebrated creators and purveyors of the much-loved treat are pulling out all the stops to offer new flavours, exciting combinations, and even an ice cream for our canine friends. With over 100 tantalising flavours available in the town, and some of the country’s finest producers, Southport is destination ice cream this summer.
The big scoop: launch of Southport Foam Shrimp Ice Cream
Putting Southport on the seaside map is a brand-new flavour created by the team at Mrs Dowsons Ice Cream to get the tastebuds tingling. Paying homage to Southport’s heritage, Southport Foam Shrimp ice cream is a playful take on the legendary Southport Potted Shrimps, but with a nod to the retro sweet shop version, as well as its instantly recognisable pink colour! Mrs Dowsons Ice Cream is one of the region’s best independent producers, with its ice cream from cow to cone handmade on the farm, using only natural flavours and honest ingredients.
Southport Foam Shrimp exclusive, limited edition Ice Cream will be available from Antonio’s, The Potting Shed and Bellas (all on Lord St), Dolce Vita (Wayfarers Arcade) and the Southport Pier Pavilion during summer 2019.
Ice cream to wake up to: introducing Pancake and Maple Syrup Ice Cream
Reflecting the current trend of breakfast ice creams, visitors to Southport will see a new addition to the breakfast menu at some Southport hotels; with the introduction of Pancake and Maple Syrup ice cream. This delicious gastro-ice cream interpretation of the American classic has been created by Mrs Dowsons to reinvent the morning menu. Breakfast will never be the same again!
Pancake and Maple Syrup Ice Cream will be on the breakfast menu at the Vincent Hotel, Royal Clifton Hotel, The Bold Hotel and the Adelphi Guesthouse during summer 2019.
Serving up a taste of Southport: Friday 19 July 2019
On Friday 19 July, in the build up to National Ice Cream Day, visitors will be able to enjoy a taste of Southport Foam Shrimp and Pancake and Maple Syrup Ice Cream, with a traditional ice cream cart giving out free samples throughout the day on Lord Street.
Ice cream for all the family, with sensational flavours such as Unicorn, Rainbow and Tutti Frutti, paints a colourful picture of what awaits with a visit to Southport. And no one is left out, with some of Southport’s favourite cafés serving doggie friendly ice cream in pop up ice cream pooch parlours, with venues including the famous Wagging Tail, situated in the picturesque village of Churchtown.
For anyone wanting to combine some seaside fun with a passion for the nation’s favourite frozen treat, Southport is the only place to head to. Southport Foam Shrimp and Pancake and Maple Syrup ice creams will be available during the summer holidays 2019.
