Spring into Action! Here’s 9 Merseyside running events to start training for right now

Spring is finally here and we’ve rounded up a whole host of Liverpool running events, fit for all the family.

January is the perfect time to get into good habits but if your New Years Resolution is but a distant memory and you’ve already failed at Lent, why not start a fresh this Spring and take on one of these 9 challenges, taking place across Merseyside, throughout the year? Whether you’ve never laced up a pair of trainers before, or you’re looking to set your personal best half marathon time, there’s an event for you.

Here’s our top 9 running events taking place across Merseyside in 2017

1 – Mersey Tunnel 10k

The annual Mersey Tunnel 10k race takes place on Sunday 1st October at 9:30am. Entries are now being taken online and cost £23. This is a favourite among road runners and those keen to conquer the long, gruelling ascent from the Kingsway Tunnel. Feeling brave? Take on this autumn challenge by clicking here.

2 – Rock n Roll Marathon

Celebrating 20 years of Rocking around the city streets, the king of Liverpool running events, the Rock N Roll Marathon series returns to Liverpool on May27/28th for a whole weekend packed with fun. Not just a marathon, half marathon and 5k and 1k event, the BT Convention centre also hosts an expo called ‘Run Fit’ for runners to get into the spirit with entertainment and exhibitors. 3 – Colour Obstacle Rush 2017

Summer arrives in Liverpool on July 15th in the shape of the hilarious Colour Obstacle Rush event, taking place at Aintree Racecourse. Prepare yourself for an inflatable Beechers Brook as this mad colour dash encourages teams to sign up (and get a 10% discount for 4 or more participants) and have a ball! 4 – Santa Dash

The title of the World’s Biggest Festive Fun Run came home to Liverpool last December as more Dashing Santa’s than ever before hit the city’s commercial district 5k course, beating the Las Vegas competition. Registration is now open for the December 3rd event and at £20 (plus booking fee) to enter this is one of the cheapest races providing the maximum amount of Winter fun. 5 – BTR Liverpool 10 Miler

Okay so maybe you smash out a 5k on a daily basis and you’re looking to step up your game with a more challenging Liverpool run event? How about the Liverpool Ten Miler? Even from the pictures you can see this is a real challenge of endurance as the course takes in an early sharp incline on its journey from the Pier Head to Sefton Park and back. A cracking start to the better weather (hopefully) beginning, this April 2nd race is limited to 500 entries, so click here and grab your place now.

6 – Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon

Another for the long distance enthusiasts or those looking for a big challenge in 2017. The 24th Vitality Liverpool Half Marathon also takes place on Sunday 2nd April but pushes that 10 miler distance just a little bit further! As the North West’s biggest half, with around 9,000 entries, the course mirrors the 10 miler with additional landmarks in the Albert Dock and Aigburth areas. 7 – Run for the 96 5k

Liverpool running events don’t get anymore community spirited than this. If you take part in one event this year, make it this one. Run For The 96 is a family friendly, inclusive 5k event taking place on Sunday 14th May. The location and course is currently being revised and will be announced shortly. Alongside the main 5k event, priced at £20 there will be a 1 mile fun run staged afterwards that anyone and everyone can take part in, further encouraging family participation. 8 – Wirral Half Marathon and 10k

Runners on the Wirral, BTR Liverpool have a treat for you too! The 4th Wirral Half Marathon and 10k events, currently priced at £28 and £22, are regarded as two of the most enjoyable races across the North West and take place on September 10th this year. Wirral’s biggest road race events are mainly flat offering runners the chance to smash their personal best while taking in the fresh breeze from the Mersey. 9 – Spring City Liverpool Spring 10k, 5k & Kids 1k

The Liverpool Spring City events are a perfect challenge to start training for this January. Taking place on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th of May there are three distances providing an opportunity for new and established runners to test their limits around the Sefton Park course. Saturday sees the 5k and kids 1k events kick off, entry is priced from £6 and Sunday hosts the 10k race, priced at £23 over this flat and fast course. Ps – the medals are awesome!
