Swerve Canada, come to Liverpool! An invitation to all disgruntled Americans
The US Election has had us all gripped for the last few weeks, and waking up to the news that Donald Trump has been elected the 45th President of the United States has had people in uproar!
We’re problem solvers here at The Guide Liverpool and we reckon Team Hillary should give Canadian emigration a miss, and head across the pond to our fair city!
Here’s ten reason why Liverpool is the place to be!
1 – We create a Thanksgiving feast every Sunday! In fact we’re confident you can get a roast in Liverpool every single day of the week! Get yourselves down to Camp & Furnace for a warm welcome and a belly-busting feast. Plus The Clubhouse have something very cool happening for Thanksgiving this year too, you will love their Marvellous Winter Marquee – who needs meat loaf, and that’s not even mentioning the Scouse!
2 – Americans are known for their love of sport and you wont find a more passionate footballing, basketballing, climbing, boxing, skate-parking, hockeying region than the north west! We’ve produced Olympians and world champions in so many disciplines we’ve lost count! Once you go Anfield, you never go back!
3 – Liverpool could be twinned with so many major American cities. From Washington for our Architecture, to New York for its maritime history and we could easily give Chicago a run for it’s ‘Windy City’ title having stood on Crosby beach for an hour!
4 – We can knock your Ivy League Universities out of the park. If you want to go far in life, check out our FOUR regional universities, from Liverpool, Edge Hill, LJMU or Hope and bag yourself a degree, masters or Phd and blaze a trail! Plus, the student nightlife ain’t bad either.
5 – We can’t deny that the US has produced some of the most influential music artists of the last century. Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna, Elvis…..we could be here all day….but we’ve gave you The Beatles…enough said. We’re a hugely musical city and our recording studios and gig venues are second to none. Want to be a recording star? Liverpool is the place to be.
6 – Okay on to food. We know not all Americans live on burgers and mac and cheese, but if you feel homesick and need a calorie-heavy fix, you’ll be spoiled for choice here! Trip Advisor lists Almost Famous, Slim’s Pork Chop Express, Red’s True BBQ and Rockwood Bar and ‘Cue as the places to get your waffle on!
7 – Pride is a quality shared by us both. We’re fiercely proud of our heritage, our families, our sporting teams and our sleep-in rollers! Good luck to anyone who tries to knock our confidence! Come and join our squad, we’re stronger together!
8 – We’re going to have to talk about Central Park aren’t we? For years we’ve been told that Sefton Park was the model for the iconic, Manhattan greenspace and we were dead smug about it too! Only to find out earlier this year that it was actually Birkenhead Park on the Wirral that provided the blue print for the NYC gem! Still, we’ve got tonnes of greenspace, and it’s all absolutely stunning!
9 – America is the ultimate hub for blockbuster films, yet our city has hosted the biggest Hollywood stars and provided the backdrop to tonnes of films from Captain America, Fast & Furious 6, 51st State and Sherlock Holmes. We’ve even got out own film office, check it out here!
10 – We are proud of the diversity and range of cultural organisations that are based within our city because they remind us the importance of acceptance and friendship. Our sense of humour is boss, we’ll buy you a pint and join in with skitting Trump’s hair at every opportunity!
Friends across the pond, stay strong and book a flight directly to the best city in the world!
