We’ve waited all year for it and Christmas week is finally here! Are you panicking over presents, cranberry sauce and roasting tins or happily hitting the city bars and restaurants with your work mates or loved ones?
With the kids about to break for school, and work winding down for a well-earned, few days rest we’re bringing you the Ultimate Guide to Christmas Week across Merseyside to help you get the most out of the region’s best attractions, events, gigs and more.
Before we get started, we just want to wish all those working tirelessly over the festive period, such as the NHS, Emergency Services, Retail and Hospitality staff across the region, a very merry Christmas, you guys rock!
Monday 19th December
It’s Derby Day!
The city will come together and divide in equal measure as these two giants clash at Goodison Park for the 227th Merseyside derby, at 8pm. Click here to watch our Matt chat with John Gibbons, of The Anfield Wrap and EFC super-fan and author, David Fehily ahead of the game.
Sing carols for charity…
If you’re already in the festive spirit, why not kick off Christmas week with a traditional carol concert in one of Liverpool’s most iconic venues? The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Roz Gladden, invites you and your family to join her and a host of special guests at St George’s Hall’s stunning Concert Rooms for a Christmas Concert to remember. Christmas films at the Palm House?
Join Independent Liverpool at The Palmhouse, Sefton Park for film, food and father Christmas this Monday evening. With no less than 10 different films showing throughout the week, ticket holders are being treated to Love Actually and The Grinch on Monday night. Tuesday 20th December
Explored our Christmas Market yet?
Great News! If you’ve finished all your Christmas preparation why not head down to St George’s Hall and wander around the Christmas Market, which has just been granted a two week extension and will now run until January 8th! Soak up the atmosphere with a mulled wine, hot chocolate or a wild boar pie while sitting under the twinkly lights with your loved ones. Click here to find out more about the stalls.
A Big Fat Pub Quiz in Aigburth?
The Fulwood Arms pub, Aigburth wants to test your knowledge of the year that was 2016! Go see lovely Leanne in Panto!
It wouldn’t be Christmas week without a panto (or three). Head on over to the Empire Theatre to catch our favourite Radio City brekkie presenter, Leanne Campbell and Hollyoaks Actress, Jorgie Porter tread the boards in a family fun fairy tale that will leave the little ones spellbound and the adults in stitches. See Santa on his Santa Bus
Don’t forget to check out Liverpool’s first ever Santa Bus. The big man in the red suit is on the Pier Head everyday 1-7pm until Christmas Eve. You get to meet Father Christmas on one of the most magical vehicles the city has ever seen. We met the man himself for an in depth chat about his amazing career.
Sushi at Neighbourhood anyone?
Do you leave all the Christmas prep to your other half? How about treating them to some time out with a midweek dinner amid all the festive madness? Some sweet soul music is on offer

Get Chrismassy with the kids
The kids have officially finished for Christmas! Trying to keep them from snooping for a couple of days can be a real challenge! Luckily the city is bursting with great ideas, from DreamWorks Lights at St George’s Hall, Mattel Play and the ‘Countdown to Christmas’ 4D light spectacular at the Albert Dock, to all the fun of the fair at both Chavasse Park, Liverpool One, and the Liverpool Ice Festival at the Pier Head.
Not forgetting our fantastic parks! Get your wellies on and create some rosy cheeks at Santa Land, Calderstones Park and The Elf who forgot Christmas at Stanley Park! Who doesn’t love a push on the swings and a hot chocolate to warm up? Easy peasy family fun this Christmas.

Friday 23rd December

It’s Christmas Eve-eve! It’s also ‘Mad Friday’, the last working Friday before the Christmas break, and Liverpool is packed with club nights, dining out and cocktail offers.
