1 – Check Out A Comedy Show
Research shows that laughter decreases stress hormones and reduces risk of cardiovascular disease so get tickets for you and your sweetheart to one of the new Liverpool Comedy Club nights down at Camp & Furnace or the ever popular Comedy Cellar on Hardman Street and Comedy Central in Albert Dock have a very special Valentines night on.
2 – Roll the Dice and get competitive!
‘The family that plays together stays together’ – so said Trivial Pursuit when it reached its peak popularity in the 80s, so cement your relationship with a rousing round of board games at Sugar & Dice board game café.
With absolutely loads of games to choose from, you can pay by the hour while you pit your wits against each other and maybe even discover whether the object of your affection is the perfect match for you based on their Scrabble moves
3 – Tee Off Together at Ghetto Golf
Take your competitive spirit to the next level down by the old Cains Brewery for the crazy golf experience that everyone’s raving about, enter Ghetto Golf! Grab a hotdog from Meet Frank and a drink afterwards and above all, try not to gloat if you’re the winner or you might find your Valentine’s Day date ending earlier than planned!
4 – Hatch a Plan and Breakout
Relationship experts say working on a mission or project together strengthens bonds, so book into one of the Breakout Liverpool escape rooms and see if you can solve all the clues and puzzles in 60 minutes. Be aware, the rooms are packed with CCTV cameras to monitor your progress and help you if you get stuck, so no canoodling in the escape room!
5 – Ditch Dinner, Book Brunch!
Arguably the most relaxed meal of the day, brunch takes the pressure off an expensive Valentine’s Day evening meal. Plus – when you call it ‘Brunch’ not ‘Breakfast’ it officially makes it socially acceptable to start drinking before midday. Cheers!
6 – A Little Bit of You Time
Probably the most touchy feely Valentine’s suggestion on the list, this one’s not ideal if you’ve only just met, or if you’re the kind of girlfriend who’s likely to get outraged if her other half accidentally gets a semi on when another woman touches him in a strictly professional and therapeutic manner.
For a luxurious oasis in a central location, head to the Eforea Spa at the Grade II listed DoubleTree by Hilton or the stunning Titanic Hotel Spa and enjoy spa access, face and body treatments, and splash out with a package that includes afternoon tea.
7 – Get Cultural
While the Museum of Liverpool on the waterfront is temporarily closed, head to the World museum for the mummies, the dinosaur gallery and new planetarium shows throughout the day.
Meanwhile, Tate Liverpool offers the Tracy Emin, William Blake, and Yves Klein exhibitions for free, plus the Feast of St Valentine ahead of the big day; enjoy a three course meal using locally sourced ingredients and overlooking the Albert Dock.
8 – Be a Tourist
Whether it’s taking one of the Mersey Ferries river cruises, an open-top sightseeing bus, a whirl round the Wheel of Liverpool, or a ride on the Magical Mystery tour, spend some quality time with someone special with no hint of rose petals or edible lingerie in sight.
9 – Murder Mystery Dinner & Disco
Join fellow ‘guests’ at the nuptials of Maria and Andrew at “the most explosive wedding reception of your life”. Bring your Miss Marple or Hercule Poirot along to ‘Till Death Do Us Part’ at Camp & Furnace for a three course meal, dramatic entertainment and an 80s soundtrack.
10 – Cityscape Gazing
Go old school with a bag of chips and gaze out over Liverpool’s underrated skyline from Everton Brow. Spoil your date with a can of Shandy Bass or Dandelion & Burdock. Little wooden forks optional. Or head up St Johns Beacon and see the city from a different view. Just prey its not too windy at the time, it wobbles (especially when Pete Price is home!)
So what are you waiting for? Make a good impression and plan a cringe free date for your special girl or fella this Valentine’s Day.
