Walk For Kate and raise vital funds for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice

Garston community comes together to raise money for Zoe’s Place with a Walk for Kate.

Members of Garston Lifestyles gym, their friends and families will come together this weekend to support a charity walk organised by Ged Finnegan with proceeds going to vital respite care at Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.

21 years ago Ged suffered the unimaginable pain of losing his daughter Kate Finnegan at the age of just 12. To honour her memory and to raise much needed funds for children with life limiting conditions, Ged has organised a 26 mile long walking event called Walk For Kate.

Ged Finnegan organised Walk for Kate in memory of his daughter and to help other parents in their time of need.

On Saturday the 23rd March 2019 more than 100 people will be walking 26 miles to raise money for Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in West Derby.

Walk for Kate will start at the Bull statue on Otterspool Promenade at 8am. The route will take walkers to New Brighton, Leasowe Lighthouse and back to the Pier Head before continuing on back along the waterfront to the Otterspool finish line.

Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice provides 24 hour respite and palliative care for babies aged 0-5 years with life limiting or life threatening conditions. In recent weeks, Zoë’s Place Baby Hospice announced it was being forced to shut beds due to lack of funds and appealed to the city to help get behind the service with fundraising.

One day of vital care at Zoe’s Place can cost as much as £4,500 and so donations and fundraising events, like the Walk for Kate are an essential part of continuing to support children and their families in their time of need.
