Your Guide Liverpool for the week ahead (12-18th June 2017)

This week we’re paying homage to dad’s, beautiful women, African culture, samba and gin, nothing wrong with that line-up in our eyes! From brand new eateries serving up gin on the waterfront to Africa Oye celebrating 25 phenomenal years and there’s even a stage show or two in there for good measure. Monday 12th June

Brunch at Gin n’ Juice, Mann Island

It’s official! We’re a city of Gin lovers and it just so happens that a brand new eatery and dedicated gin bar has opened up on the citys iconic waterfront. Monday morning might be a bit early to hit the gin though, so why not stop by Gin n’ Juice for a healthy brunch and get a feel for the place before heading back after work? Wonderland comes to the Empire Theatre

This highly anticipated stage production finally comes to the Liverpool Empire this week and we know for sure the tickets have been flying out. Wonderland is an enchanting musical adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, with a huge heart, a medley of magic and a whole lot of wonder. Tickets and more info available here.

Tuesday 13th June

Cult Film Night: Reservoir Dogs, New Bird Street Warehouse

Cocktails, cinema, gangsters and good times, what more could you ask for on a Tuesday evening? Head down to the New Bird Street Warehouse to indulge in this absolute belter of a film which was released 25 YEARS AGO! Juicebox 500 Tour at Dead Crafty Beer Company, Dale Street

Catch the Omnibus at Unity Theatre, Hope Place

Thursday 15th June

Official launch of Brazilica Fest, Camp & Furnace, Baltic Triangle

Craft Beer Expo at Constellations, Baltic Triangle

There’s even more fun to be had at the Baltic Triangle on Wednesday night at Constellations hosts a Craft Beer Expo, from 15th-18th June. expect over 300 beers, 20+ bars and over 80 breweries, sumptuous street food and amazing tunes. Friday 16th June

Culture Fix: In Quest of Beauty, Walker Art Gallery, William Brown Street

Now us scouse girls love nothing more than a good flower headband filter on Snapchat and from this Friday you can see the original influence behind it when Alphonse Mucha: In Quest of Beauty opens at the Walker Art Gallery. These iconic drawings, posters and photographs show the true nature of art nouveau, which isn’t a good selfie, but natural beauty! Find out more here.

Summer Arts Market, Liverpool Cathedral

The Summer Arts Market will feature the creative work of over 200 of the region’s best artists, designers and makers selling handmade work and original designs directly to the public. Thousands of items will be exhibited and on sale – everything from photography, ceramics and jewellery to screen-prints, decorations, cards, clothing, photography, woodwork, glassware, textiles and handmade beauty products. Africa Oye 25th Anniversary, Sefton Park

On 17th & 18th June, a handpicked line-up of acts from Oye’s 25-year history will descend on Liverpool’s Sefton Park for a weekend of incredible music and cultural celebrations. Hip Hop Wine Shop at Camp & Furnace

Hip Hop and wine, a match made in Camp & Furnace heaven and only these guys could turn a basic wine festival into something way more fun. St Luke’s Church Gardens Grand Re-opening, Berry Street

Everyone’s favourite city meeting place, lunch sit off and unofficial taxi rank is set for a grand soiree this week as the church gardens of St Luke’s (or the Bombed Out Church as we all know and love it) reopen to the public. The reopening will feature two special concerts of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper album to tie in with the city’s 50th anniversary celebrations of the band’s landmark LP. Info on performance times here.

Hans Zimmer comes to Echo Arena this week and film fans are going crazy for tickets to experience Hollywood’s most in demand and innovative film music composer whose 100 film scores have made over $24 billion at the box office. Africa Oye Continues at Sefton Park

Africa Oye celebrations continue into day two from 12:30pm with even more music, craft, art, food and drink to get involved in. Closing this year’s show is none other than Grammy-nominated reggae star, Julian Marley. Marley will play hits like “Boom Draw”, “Systems”, “Lemme Go” and “Violence in the Streets” along with a selection of his father’s iconic songs, complete with his band The Uprising, in Liverpool’s Sefton Park this June.
